Derby Notes

Saturday 16th April and it was the opening race of the season for the Derby Burton & District South Road Federation who were at Upper Heyford. The pigeons were liberated at 09-45 in a light south east wind. In Kilburn club two members sent 47 birds with Keith Foulke getting the winner with a yearling dk/w/f cock taking the red card doing 1605.7.  Keith’s second pigeon was a blue yearling cock doing 1605 to take third.

Taking second & fourth was Stewart Wainwright. His first pigeon was a two year old dark cock doing 1605.3 followed by a yearling dk/w/f hen doing 1590.  

Saturday April 23rd saw the start of the old bird season for the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation with their opening race from Upper Heyford a distance of 70 miles into Derby. Our convoyer /driver Alys got the pigeons away at 11-30 in a brisk east north east wind. In Holbrook 5 members sent 87 birds and it was a excellent opener for B&S Stone making it a clean sweep taking the first four positions.  Taking the red card was a blue cock doing 1302 followed by two cheq cocks doing 1300 & 1213.5 then a blue cock doing 1213.5 all yearlings.

In Osmaston Park Homing Society 10 members sent 118 birds with the red card going to the new partnership Stevenson & Willis ( Fred & Dave ). Their winner was a yearling blue pied hen which was bred by Mick Willis & Family.

S & H W Hall took second with a two year old blue hen doing 1216 followed by Mick Willis & Family in third with a two year old cheq cock doing 1139 with Shenton Brothers in fourth doing 1085 with a two year old cheq pied cock.

In Etwall & District Flying Club A.Peach & Son took three of the first four positions with a two year old grizzle hen taking the red card doing 1245 followed by a two year old red cock doing 1204 then a five year old cheq hen doing 1184.
