Derby Notes.
The Burton & South Derbyshire Federation & The Midlands Combine put their races back 24 hours due to the bad weather which was forecast for Saturday 07-06-2025.
The Burton & South Derbyshire Federation got theirs away at 09-50 Sunday morning in a south west wind.
Holbrook Miners Welfare had 9 members sending 180 birds with Kevin Matthews taking the red with a two year old mealy hen doing 1601 and was the only pigeon in the result doing over 1600.This was followed by a yearling blue hen doing 1586 to take third. In second with a two year old blue hen doing 1589 was Russ Bailey with John Dowd getting fourth with a yearling blue hen doing 1576.

11 members sent 123 birds in the Osmaston Park Homing Society where it turned out to be a two loft race with the inform loft of Chaddesden fancier Dave Waddington getting his fourth red card of the season with a 5 year old cheq cock doing 1577 followed by a two year old cheq cock doing 1573.24.I to take fourth.

Taking second & third was the ever present Little Eaton loft of S & H W Hall ( Stan ) with a yearling blue pied cock doing 1576 and a yearling blue hen doing 1573.25.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 6 members sent 103 birds with A.Peach & Son getting a podium finish with a two year old cheq hen doing 1535 followed by a three year old dk/wf cock doing 1533 then a two year old blue cock doing 1532.

In fourth with a two year old dark cock doing 1505 were the man & wife partnership of Peter & Shirley Harrison.
Derby Premier had three members sending 57 birds and were at Newbury with the Midlands Combine. The pigeons were liberated at 08-00 hrs in a westerly wind. Taking the first three positions were Mr & Mrs P Todd ( Paul & Lynda ).Their winner was a three year old cheq hen doing 1471 followed by a three old blue cock doing 1470 then a three year old cheq cock doing 1469.

In fourth with a three year old grizzle hen doing 1443 were Glew & O'Donnell ( Dave & Sheamus ).
Both the The Burton & South Derbyshire Federation and the Midlands Combine were at Blandford on Saturday 14th June and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation got theirs away at 10-50 in a South West wind. The pigeons made light work of the 145 mile journey back into Derby with velocities well into the 1900 ypm.
In Holbrook Miners Welfare Flying Club 8 members sent 150 birds and it was Russ Bailey who took the top two positions with his two arrivals doing 1941.7 & 1941.5.In third was Fred Turner doing 1939 followed by Kevin Matthews doing 1932.

Osmaston Park Homing Society had 12 members sending 154 birds with Mr & Mrs P.Todd ( Paul & Lynda ) taking the top two positions with a red cock and a cheq cock both doing 1929.5.In third & fourth was the ever present S & H W Hall with two yearling hens doing 1928 & 1927.
The federation also held a race from Truro a distance of 249 miles into Derby. Getting the best pigeon in the Derby clock station which was 69 ypm in front of the next pigeon was Hall & Torry with a yearling mealy cock doing 1759 which was bred by club mate and secretary Steve Stone.

In second was Mr & Mrs P.Todd ( Paul & Lynda ) with a four year old cheq hen doing 1690.Third & fourth went to Jason & Karen Phillips with a yearling blue cock doing 1625 and a two year old mealy cock doing 1578.
In Etwall & District Flying Club 7 members sent 67 birds and it was A.Peach & Son who did the damage getting a podium finish with three two year old hens doing 1879,1844 & 1777 followed by P & S Harrison with a six year old cheq cock doing 1774.
Saturday June 21st and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Weymouth and due to the hot and humid weather expected, the pigeons were liberated at 06-55 in an east south east wind.
Osmaston Park Homing Society had 8 members sending 112 birds and getting the red card with a two year old blue cock doing 1731 was John & Steve Hicks with their second pigeon a two year old cheq cock doing 1568 to take fourth. In second with a three year old red cock doing 1718 was Dave Waddington with S & H W Hall in third with a four year old ch/wf hen doing 1586.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 6 members sent 106 birds with Steve Billings getting the red card with a three year old pencil cock doing 1692 with his next pigeon a 4 year old cheq cock doing 1595 to take third.

Saturday June 28th and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Salisbury. The pigeons were liberated at 11-05 in a west south west wind.
Holbrook Miners Welfare had 5 members sending 108 birds with the man of the moment Kevin Matthews taking three of the first four positions plus an added bonus by topping the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation ( Well done Kev ). His winner was doing 1746 with his next two pigeons doing 1741.3 & 1741.2 to take third & fourth. In second doing 1742 was Russ Bailey.
In Osmaston Park Homing Society 13 members sent 140 birds with the Little Eaton loft of S & H W Hall having a good day with a yearling blue pied hen doing 1744 to take the red card followed by a two year old blue cock doing 1706 and a yearling cheq pied hen doing 1705 to take third & fourth. In second doing 1726 with a yearling blue hen was Mick Stone.
Etwall & District Flying Club had 4 members sending 51 birds and it turned out to be a two loft race with Peter & Shirley Harrison getting the red card with a two year old blue cock doing 1590 followed by a two year old dark hen doing 1559 to take fourth. In second & third with a with a two year old bl/wf hen doing 1585 and a eight year old cheq hen doing 1572 was A.Peach & Son.

The Midlands Combine had a change of race point and were originally at Salisbury but bought theirs back to Upper Heyford due to the hot weather forecast. In Derby Premier two members sent 42 birds with Mr & Mrs P Todd (Paul & Lynda ) taking the first three positions with a yearling bl/pied cock doing 1638 followed by a yearling blue hen doing 1637 then a two year old cheq cock doing 1600. In fourth were Jason & Karen Phillips with a four year old dark cock doing 1444.
Sunday July 6th was the date for the final old bird race of the 2025 season for the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation who were at Weymouth with the race being once again put back 24 hours due to the bad weather forecast which had been forecast for Saturday.
In Osmaston Park Homing Society 11 members sent 109 birds with Mick Stone finally getting over the line taking the red card with a yearling blue cock doing 1372 which was 71 yards a minute clear of the next pigeon.

In second & third were the father & son partnership of John & Steve Hicks with two blue cocks doing 1301 & 1287.Taking fourth was the Little Eaton loft of S & H W Hall with a two year old blue cock doing 1284.
Holbrook had 9 members sending 225 birds with Mr & Mrs D Johnson ( Darren & Vickey ) getting the winner doing 1366.In second & third was the ever consistent loft of Kevin Matthews with both pigeons both doing 1364.9 with Russ Bailey taking fourth doing 1362.
