Saturday July 23rd saw the start of the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation young bird programme with the opening race from Upper Heyford. The pigeons were liberated at 09-20 in a light south west wind.

Now the bird flu restrictions have been revoked those members who have been locked down can now start racing once again. Osmaston Park Homing Society had ten members sending 194 birds and it turned out to be an excellent day for Paul & Lynda Todd who had a podium finish taking the first three positions with two blue cocks doing 1534 & 1526 and a blue hen doing 1531.All their pigeons were bred down from his Steve Foster Lambrecht’s. In fourth was the Little Eaton loft of S & H W Hall with a cheq cock doing 1502.

In Holbrook Miners Welfare seven members sent 245 birds with Mick & Glyn Stone taking the red card doing 1512 followed by Kevin Mathews doing 1500 & 1495 with Trevor Jennings in fourth doing 1490.

In Etwall & District Flying Club four members sent 70 birds with Kevin Southall making it a clean sweep taking the first four positions. His first pigeon was a blue cock doing 1531 followed by a blue hen doing 1529.9 then a blue cock doing 1529.0 then a cheq hen doing 1528.

Saturday July 30th and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Upper Heyford for their second young bird race of the season. The pigeons were liberated at 07-35 in a light south west wind. Osmaston Park Homing Society had 15 members sending 288 birds with Mick Fearn being a clear winner with a blue cock doing 1528 the only bird in the club doing over 1500 ypm and to put the icing on the cake topping the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation.  ( Congratulations Mick ).His second pigeon was a cheq cock doing 1451 to take fourth. In second & third was Mick Stone with a blue hen doing 1457 and a cheq pied hen doing 1456.

In Holbrook 7 members sent 163 birds and taking the top two positions were B & S Stone doing 1525 & 1478.In third & fourth were last week’s winners Glyn & Mick Stone doing 1470 & 1469.

Performance of the day must go to 13 year old Dylan Scott who recently joined Etwall & District Flying Club. The members helped him out breeding him some young birds to get him started. The club had 6 members sending 83 birds and taking the red card and breaking his novice on his first attempt was Dylan with a velocity of 1403 the only bird in the club doing over 1400 ypm this was followed by his next pigeon doing 1307 to take third. In second & fourth was Mick Leszczyszak doing 1346 & 1304.

Saturday August 6th and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Marlborough with the pigeons being liberated at 08-05 in a north, north east wind.

Holbrook Miners Welfare had 6 members sending 174 birds with Mr & Mrs D Stone taking three of the first four positions with velocities of 1332,1331 & 1312.In third were B & S Stone doing 1325.

In Osmaston Park Homing Society 16 members sent 277 birds with the Little Eaton loft of S & H W Hall taking the red card with a cheq cock doing 1326.In second & third were Alan & Liz Houldsworth with a cheq hen doing 1315 and a red cock doing 1313.In fourth with a blue cock doing 1308 were Shenton Brothers ( Ron & Norman ).

In Etwall & District Flying Club 8 members sent 135 bird-s with Kevin Southall taking three of the first four places with a dk/cheq hen taking the red card doing 1296.47 this was followed by a cheq w/f hen doing 1238.6 and a cheq hen doing 1238.1 to take third & fourth. In second was A.Peach & Son doing 1296.45.

Kilburn Miners Welfare who fly in the Derby Burton & District South Road Federation had 3 members sending 55 birds and the pigeons were liberated at Upper Heyford at 09-30 in a north west wind .Taking the red card also third was Keith Foulke. Keith’s winner was a dark hen doing 1146 followed by a blue hen doing 1099.In second was Stewart Wainwright with a  blue hen doing 1119 with R.Parkin & Hall in fourth with a blue cock doing 1076.

Saturday 13th August and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Marlborough. The pigeons were liberated at 07-05 in a light north east wind, due to the hot temperatures forecast for later in the day. Osmaston Park Homing Society had 13 members sending 201 birds with S & H W Hall's cheq cock number 13 doing 1296 getting back to back wins having won the previous week. Taking the next three positions was Dave Waddington with a blue cock doing 1280.8 a cheq cock doing 1280.2 and a blue hen doing 1279.

In Etwall & District Flying Club Kevin Southall continues to dominate winning with a cheq hen doing 1265 followed by a blue hen doing 1203 to take third. In second was A.Peach & Son with a blue cock doing 1260 with Peter & Shirley Harrison in fourth with a blue hen doing 1191.

In Holbrook 6 members sent 74 birds with F.A.Turner taking the top two positions doing 1258 & 1253.Third position went to Mr & Mrs K Salt doing 1246 with Trevor Jennings in fourth doing 1219.

Saturday August 20th and the Burton & South Derbyshire were at Salisbury and our convoyer Alys got the pigeons away at 08-20 with no wind given. As the morning progressed the wind increased to a strong west south west but the leading pigeons made light work of it doing speeds well over 60 mph. In Osmaston Park Homing Society 14 members sent 240 birds with the inform loft of S & H W Hall getting his hat trick taking the top two positions with a grizzle cock doing 1794  taking the red card followed by a cheq cock doing 1793 Stans winner was bred from a pigeon which he bought for his late wife Shirley. In third was Mick Stone with a cheq pied hen doing 1782 followed by Mr & Mrs Houldsworth ( Alan & Liz ) in fourth with a blue hen doing 1776.

In Holbrook 9 members sent 244 birds with a high five going to Kevin Mathews making a clean sweep taking the first five positions with velocities of 1791,1790.5 1790.2,1790.2 & 1789.Brilliant flying Kev.

Etwall & District Flying Club had 7 members sending 112 birds with A.Peach & Son taking three of the first four positions. His winner was a dk/w/f cock doing 1647 followed by a blue cock doing 1634.3 and a blue hen doing 1634.0.In second was Mick Leszczyszak with a blue hen doing 1643.

The Derby Burton & District South Road Federation were at Marlborough and the pigeons were liberated at 08-15 in a south west wind. Kilburn Club had two members sending  33 birds with Keith Foulke taking the top two positions. His winner and taking the red card was a blue hen doing 1615 followed by a blue cock doing 1595.In third & fourth was Stewart Wainwright with a bl/flty hen doing 1479 and a dark hen doing 1432.
