Ray & Jean Lees get a flyer out of Hullavington.

Saturday August 22nd saw 10 clubs enter 1635 birds for the second visit to Hullavington this YB season. They were liberated at 11:10 in a fresh w.s.w. wind.  After a weeks break due to poor weather, everyone was looking forward to racing again. It turned out to be a fast race with the leading bird exceeding 2000 ypm; but they didn’t tumble in, it was a long afternoon for most lofts.  At the end of the day returns weren’t too bad from what I’ve heard?

Congratulations to Ray & Jean Lees of Appleby Magna, flying at Castle Gresley.  They took 1st fed on 2003 with a blue Lambrecht cock from Brian Baldwin. From what I have seen from results across the Midlands, flying the south road on this day, this could well be the only bird exceeding 2000 ypm?  Ray & Jean also topped the fed out of Honiton with old birds, again in a w.s.w. wind; that day doing 2064 ypm.

Ending on a sad note, I’ve just been informed that Rueben Hough of Derby passed away this morning, August 30th in hospital aged 96.                        I’ve known Rueben for a long time, he always rang me on Sunday mornings with details of the previous days racing, he never moaned and always put his pigeons welfare first, and they paid him back with a lot of success.  Reuben was a true gentleman, always smartly dressed, and liked by all.

THE LATE RUEBEN HOUGH A TRUE GENTLEMANJPG

Rest in peace my good friend, you will be greatly missed. Condolences to all his family.
