Wrexham Writings

Welcome back to ‘Wrexham Writings’.  Thank you to the members of the Wrexham and District Federation of Racing Pigeon Clubs for entrusting me with the role of Press Officer again this season.

I hope the clubs can assist me in supplying as much info as they can to make these reports interesting for all. I look forward to hearing from you all. Some photos to include in the write ups would be great as well.

It was a challenging winter for the fed officials as we were struggling to get a driver for the transporter, thank you to Clwyd Roberts for stepping into the role and well done to the officials.

The opening race of the 2026 season for the Wrexham Federation saw the birds released at 10:30am on Saturday 18th April from Hereford in a West North West wind, a good race was had and hopefully everyone had good returns.

43 members sent 1229 birds.

1st , 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th S.K.Davenport, Cefn 1486,1485,1484,1484 and 1480. 5th, 8th, 9th and 10th G. Williams, Cefn 1483, 1479,1478 and 1478.  7th G & G.Williams & Son, Llay 1479.

Obituary’s

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Ron Williams of Weston Rhyn.  Ron was a truly lovely man.  My dad had known him for years (both driving wagons in the animal feed business).  Ron bred my first ever winner that was called the ‘Pink eyed Cock’.  Ron was passionate for channel racing and in particular the Gobown Two Bird which he kept going for many years following the passing of great Den Kendrick.  I recall Ron racing some great Mealy’s.  Ron was a great worker for the sport, been a past Secretary of the Chirk Central club and Gobowen Two Bird.  Rest In Peace Ron, we have lost a good one in you.

While mentioning the sad passing of people I thought I would go back to January when we lost another great worker for the sport, Eric Watkins of the Shrewsbury Telepost.  Eric was Secretary of the club for years and was a Life Vice President of the National Flying Club, a club he ran a clock station for and had so much passion for.  Eric flew a great bird in the National and was particularly good in the young bird national and old hens’ races sending only a few birds.  Rest In Peace Eric.

Whitchurch & District Homing Society

Thank you to the members of the club for the Medal presented to us for finishing second in their Breeder Buyer in 2024.  There was a delay as they couldn’t hold the sales in 2025 due to Bird Flu.  Thank you to Dave Pullen for buying and racing the bird to score.  I’ve included a photo of myself and my son Josh receiving the medal.  I believe the two sales they had were a great success so there will be a large prize pot to race for this year.

Lucca Miller

I’ve included a photo of Lucca Miller training his dad’s birds, Lucca is very keen.  Hopefully some of his Grizzles come to beat his dad’s this year.  Keep it up Lucca.
