Ray & Jean Lees of Castle Gresley take 1st fed Honiton.
For the race from Honiton, once again marking was put back 24 hours due to a poor forecast for the Saturday. There may have been a chance of a race on the Saturday afternoon if we would have risked it? Sunday was forecast to be a much better day, although once again some birds met rain, possibly close to home, and those that went whizzing by would have encountered a very strong head wind and squally showers working their way back home. 9 clubs sent 1668 birds which were liberated at 08-15 in a strong WSW Wind.
As expected the birds fairly romped home with the wind up the backsides and hearty congratulations go to Ray & Jean Lees & Millar of the Castle Gresley club, they took 1st fed on 2064 with a 2yo blue pied cock; the sire is a Houben from Dean Fantom; the dam a Peter van de Merwe from Brian Wallace of Newcastle. they also followed up with a mealy Busschaert cock in 12th spot; the sire from Graham Evans “Broken wing”; the dam a Starview Busschaert from John Crowder. Ray & Jean form the partnership now, the Millar was Rays next door neighbour who helped out, but sadly has since passed away
