BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.

Brilliant race out of Blandford sees Dave “Waddo” Waddington of Derby take 1st Fed.

First of all, the scheduled race from Blandford on Saturday May 17th had to be cancelled due to the transporter breaking down, luckily the lorry failed to start at the home end, so no birds were on board, it could have been a lot worse, if it had happened with the birds on board and the lorry on the way down to the liberation site?

Thanks to Cottons transport on solving and repairing the problem. The following weekend we rescheduled for Blandford, but with the forecast for Saturday May 24th not too good, the fed made a great decision and put back marking by 24 hours.

62 Members from 8 clubs sent 1119 birds which were liberated by Alys at 10-15 in a Strong WNW wind, veering Strong West on the way home. The wind was really strong, but the birds made light work of it, with excellent returns and the leaders reaching close on 54mph.

Congratulations to Dave Waddington of Osmaston Park Homing Society in Derby, “Waddo” took 1st fed on 1571 with a 2yo Blue cock, this cock bred out of “The Bat” x Alan Brassington stock also topped our fed last year out of Yeovil, well done Dave.

Alan Stretton of Swadlincote Town kept up his good form taking 7th & 9th fed on 1559.5; 1559.2; first over the pad was a 3yo blue cock out of Alan’s good Louis Thijs when paired to a Geoff Farmer Hereman. He was followed by the 3yo Blue wf Stefaan Lambrecht x Hereman hen which won the season opener from Cheltenham, her sire out of “Sultan” and “Rosse Gwerte”; her dam out of a nephew of “Olympic Bolt” when paired to Stefaan Lambrecht “Paris”.

Given the strength of the West wind, nobody would have given the Rugeley lofts a snowflake in hell chance of appearing on the fed sheet. But Mark Nesbitt defied the odds stacked against him to gain 8th & 10th fed on 1559.3; 1558.9; two brilliant birds on the day, well done Mark. Both these hens are the same way bred, they are out of a son of Adam Wealthall’s great Lambrecht “Snowball”, when paired to Mark’s top Cheq Hereman hen, she’s a winner of 4 x 1st fed and was Bird of the year in our fed three years running. The winner was a yearling Blue hen; the runner up is the good 2yo cheq hen “D 57”, she’s one of the three sisters who ALL topped our fed in 2024. One of the sisters also topped the Worcester fed this year.
