Stretton Flying Club 2017 Prize Presentation.

Stretton Flying Club held their 2017 prize presentation at the Anglesey Arms in the village on Saturday November 18th.  34 members and guests sat down to a very enjoyable meal, after the meal Pete Wightman welcomed the guests for the night, Peter Watson and his partner Christine. Peter is a founder member of the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation, and is held in very high esteem in our area.

First up was a very hard-working member of our club Colin Crook, Colin turns up to help whether he sends or not, he won £8.10 in prizemoney.

Next up was Phil Whetton, Phil flies at Tutbury, and only sends to our club in the Federation special races when he duplicates his birds over, Phil won £8.72.

Next up was a new member in our club, Andy Wood of Winshill, Andy won £12.47 and also won the YB Knockout cup.  Trevor Bird was next to be called, Trevor re-joined the club this year and has been a great help on the ETS side, Trevor won £23.06.

Ron Dakin & Son were next, Ron is another member of Tutbury, and sends in the Federation special races; he won £24.31. Ron got a special mention has he bred the bird “Ronnies Rebels” which gained 21st in the who dares wins one loft race, just out of the prizemoney, but a very creditable performance.

Next up was Phil Bourke, Phil didn’t send to all the races, but still managed to earn £33.04 prizemoney, and on behalf of the club, thanks to Phil’s two lovely children Sophie and Jack who are always willing to help out when they can. I’ve put in a couple of photos from the “club do” 2 years ago (hope they like em?)

The clubs hard working secretary Dave Johnston was next up, Dave won £37.39 prizemoney, and also took home a well earnt honorarium of £250, well done Dave and thanks for your commitment throughout the year.

Another new member was next up, Melv Willis of Winshill. Melv won £38.03 prizemoney, and he may well be one to watch next year when he goes back to racing his hens?

Another member who does a lot of work for the club is John Genders, along with his wife Sue, they clean the club crates weekly and Sue keeps our portacabin nice and tidy. John won one race and £64.20 prizemoney, add to this £63.25 for crate cleaning, and also the lowest winning velocity trophy.

Barry Odom had a very good OB season; he won one race and £129.06 prizemoney and the following trophies; pigeon most points overseas; OB average; channel average; channel points; first yearling Messac; and the longest OB race from Ancenis. Barry spends the period from September to March over in Thailand, and then comes home for the pigeon season. Whilst he’s in Thailand Steve Burke looks after the birds, and it was Steve who collected Barry’s winnings, Barry would like to thank Steve for all the hard work in the cold winter months.

Club Chairman Ray Grimsdell was next, Ray and Jean are both ardent and hardworking members of our club, Ray won one race and £139.67 prizemoney and the runner up longest OB race trophy.

Pete Wightman & Son were next; they won two races and £147.13 prizemoney, Pete also took home a well-deserved £100 honorarium for his treasurer duties.

Now to the top three lofts of 2017; in third were Tony & Diane Green winning one race and £176.42 prizemoney. Again, thanks for their hard work during the season and thanks to Diane for stepping in and doing the results when I can’t make it.

Runners up in 2017 were Jim and Matt Parker, they had a fantastic YB season, and ended up winning seven races; the longest YB race cup; the penultimate YB race cup; the YB points cup; the Messac cup; the longest OB and YB average and the combined points. Total prizemoney won £331.03, congratulations to Jim and matt.

Top prize-winner yet again was Alan Brassington, Alan won twelve races and the following silverware; YB average; OB points; Inland OB points; 2 bird points cup; combine average; combined inland average; pigeon of the year with GB16Z58255; inland OB average; Coutance Cup; runner up longest YB race and first yearling coutances; total prizemoney of £384.00.

The club paid out £62.33 per race, after the prize presentation the club presented a bottle of prosecco to Peter and Christine, then Dave and Jim sold the raffle tickets which made the club £92, and close on 20 prizes were won. Overall, a very successful season, and prize presentation.
