BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.
A great win for Alan & Liz Houldsworth of Chaddesden Jubilee out of Exeter.
Saturday May 23rd saw 60 members from 8 clubs enter 878 birds for the first trip to the Devon city of Exeter. Birdage was down a bit this week, as it coincided with the MNFC and NMCC race from Insigny Sur Mer. It was forecast to be a very warm day, the start of a mini heat wave, unusual for the May spring bank holiday? There was a bit of mist and fog in Somerset early morning, this soon burnt off and Alys cut the strings at 10-25 into a N.N.W. wind. I estimated arrivals around the 50mph mark, but the birds must have a bit of help along the way, I think the wind turned more westerly as they headed up country, and the leading birds made close on 54 mph.
Congratulation to Alan & Liz Houldsworth of the Chaddesden Jubilee club in Derby, they took 1st fed on 1581 with a yearling cheq Hereman Cuester hen, bred by Kev Matthews of Holbrook. She’s a grand child of a pair Kev purchased direct from Premier Stud. She bred down from a grandson of “Den Euro”, and her dam is a granddaughter of “Better than Bolt”. Well done Alan, nice to see a fellow scribe (T3) hit the front.
