Lanarkshire Lads attend Scottish Central 3 Bird Presentation Night
6th October 2017
It was off to Whitburn in West Lothian to present this year’s winners and sit on the panel in the company of Ian Lindsay from Newmains club, Lanarkshire federation.
The night was held in the bowling club on the main street and a cracking venue it is for such an event.
The three bird club has a great tradition in Scotland and has been on the go for as long as I can remember, giving great opportunity for everyone to be on a level playing field .Racing against the best with up to a maximum of three pigeons .The three races include a Yearling inland race, Old bird Channel race and a young bird. The competition and prize money which is £1,000 pounds for the channel race (2018) is worth a wee go.
All present from the company are going to give it a go next season. £40 to join and that includes your birdage costs, can’t be bad for a chance to win excellent prize money in all races and usual healthy pool money. The club race marks at Armadale pigeon club which is just off the M8 motorway.
There isn’t many clubs in the land paying out such prizes; with £1000 for the channel race and great other prizes. I think everyone will be knocking down the secretary’s door for a chance to compete.
We were warmly met by Jim Jack and Secretary George Finlayson and after a wee blether and a couple of soda waters and lime we got down to the presentation of trophies.
We started with Jim asking us to tell the hall how we started in the sport, Ian was first up with some light hearted jokes and a wee poem (The Doggy Tale) that had everyone in laughter and really set the atmosphere for a great night.
If you don’t know Ian he is a real character, who knows everyone and includes them in his conversation and light humour. He really is someone you want in your team for such an occasion.
After a question and answer session that had plenty of conversation Ian finished the evening with a wee song. Absolute class Ian!
George held a raffle and a sale of next year’s young birds that raised some fine money for the club. Well done to all he managed to grab a wee bargain for season 2018.One of the previous youngsters bought won over £2000 racing this season.
During the evening I spoke with John McLaughlin,a fellow Partick Thistle player and enjoyed talking about the biggest club in Glasgow(Well they are to the Jags fans).
I think the members will remember this night for all the light hearted banter and great atmosphere.
This year’s main winners were Angus Orr & Son who had a brilliant season on all fronts at club, federation, National and one bird loft racing.
A top loft from the Falkirk area winning at any level.
They win the 1st Open Rivenhall(Principle race on the calendar)
Two bird average winners Whitley bay
Two bird average winners all three races
1st Open Billericay winner was Pat Ward
1st Open Whitley bay YBs was JW Strang /Son
Thanks to Jim and George for the invite and the night went into the small hours with everyone having a chat.
Sadly Jim Jack has had to retire from racing due to health reasons and will be sorely missed by all, but hopefully will continue in a secretarial position in the North West federation.Everyone wishes him well
I am more than happy to promote such a fine, well run club that provides first class racing into the central belt of Scotland. And as Arnold Schwarzenegger said Ill be back!
