Well we have reached the end of the 2017 programme, which can only be described as the worse in living memory. For those brave souls who seen it through, well done for your perseverance .In my 35 years of racing pigeons I never experienced a season like it.Losses across the federation can only be described as horrendous, horrific and utterly obscene.

The races from Longtown in Cumbria were a total disaster, most of the birds lost in the federation got hammered and lost from this short race point. Why you may say ,well its there to be seen. The most populated area of falcons in Europe. The pigeons never got a start and terrorised on the last 50 miles through the hills.

The type of racing we experienced was erratic, large gaps between the birds that homed.

It really is gutting to send healthy experienced pigeons, only to get a fraction home on the day with a very small percentage making it the next day.

For those that say its not that bad "what planet are you on" Or does it suit them to have the Lanarkshire getting hammered every week!

When racing through the hills and valleys the pigeons cant go anywhere, there are at the mercy of these flying vampires. If given flatter terrain they have a chance if attacked.

There really is better ways of wasting your time!

Will we learn? Only time will tell! Will we pull together or tear each other apart? Only time will tell.

What I can say is pigeon racing has to change to survive. One thing I know is the present Lanarkshire committee will do everything in its power to keep this great federation together, Its up to the members to decide the future. The committee can only recommend.

This week was back to Appleby in Cumbria, at 8am the birds 460 for the federation ,yes 460 , faced a helping south wind for the hundred and seven miles back into central Scotland.

The winners made light work and in the high 1400s

This weeks winner is the brilliant partnership of GWP Macaloney of Airdrie Dist and for good measure took 2nd Open federation.

GWP Macaloney win this weeks Open federation and seal the Champions trophy (Combine Average)

It doesn't matter how hard it is these guys have the quality to see it through and win the Champion loft (Combine Average for the Lanarkshire ) for a record time, Well done George,Wullie & Paul. You deserve all your accolades. Brilliant.

The cracking young bird loft of GWP Macaloney, everything down to the smallest detail.

Thats why they are the Champion Loft 2017

The winner of this years young bird average is Tam Richardson of Newmains (Bonkle Star Lofts) ,Tam has been ultra consistent, being no shrinking violet, set his fine team the task of winning this great award. Tam is a great supporter of the federation and deserves his win being ultra consistent at club and federation level Well done Thomas.
