Stafford is the county town of Staffordshire, in the West Midlands of England. It lies approximately 16 miles north of Wolverhampton, 18 miles south of Stoke-on-Trent and 24 miles north-west of Birmingham.

Well onto this weeks race and again the birdage was down considerable on last week with 3,600 and the company of 10 Ayrshire baskets liberated at 06 15 in a light south west wind with condition predicted to be excellent up to the borders .

With the forecast for showers from the borders, unfortunately the birds met up with these and at the home end it can only be described as a monsoon. Like all good fanciers we are glad to see them and sit and hope for their safe return, which this season as been chronic.

Not to sure how far into the journey they met this weather but the returns were shockingly poor at clocking.

I can only report the facts and can’t hide from the truth.Later it cleared for the evening but I think the damage had been done with no late arrivals at my loft anyway. Some made it the next day and they looked as if they been through the mire with the journey.

Back to the race into central Scotland, the winners were dropping into their lofts around 10 55 for this distance of 225 miles.

But once again the flight was erratic with large gaps between birds which is typical of this seasons flying. “I haven’t had two birds come together all season”.

Up to half my club members didn’t time which is sad for a race of such distance and will only disillusion most and with more and more fanciers calling it a day.The facts are that this has been a stinker of a season for most and the birdage doesn’t lie.

We have the best race controller and we support his decision but he cannot dictate where the birds are flying from. Based on the same race number last season the birdage is down ,which isn’t good for the federation and if we continue with these losses we will be writing our own obituary.

This week’s winner is Wullie Millen of Cambuslang club in the west section. Willie needs no introduction as he has proven a fantastic fancier over the years and has topped the section and Open more time than I can remember. He also won last years longest inland Open race. Wullie often takes the leading prizes in his section and this week also records 1st and 2nd Open federation and having seven birds in the section of fifteen prizes.

His base birds are from his Gwp Macaloney stock pigeons, Vandenabeelle x Camphus lines &-Westkaapelle & Janfield lines

Well done Wullie on another outstanding performance. 3rd Open is last week’s winner Dave Burnside of Lanark & Dist with the Sire of his last week’s winner. Top winning lines Dave.
