Lanarkshire News - Leicester Race
This week we race marked Saturday for a Sunday race from Leicester around 250 miles back into lower Central Scotland from the East Midlands area.
The birdage was well down on last week with 1481 and four other crates.
Liberated at 06 30 am in a light west wind.
The race was a " stinker "with reports a falcon attack at liberation, splitting the birds into three batches.
Very big gaps were experienced with sometimes up to one hour between returns.
Again many birds not homing.
Not really what you wish for and another nail in the coffin for racing from Leicester in the future.
This week’s winner was timed at 12 01pm for a distance of 2 :45 on a velocity of 1195ymp.
I spoke with Andy who had a great racing day also winning 1st Open from Kettering with South Lanarkshire ,his winner of 1st Centre section,1st Open Leicester is a two year old hen who has raced every week on the roundabout system. She was also 6th Open Kettering, South Lanarkshire BBLM last year.
She was bred from a pair of Vandenbelle purchased at Kevin Murphy's sale ,unfortunately the cock bird died suddenly during the off season.
These birds have bred well every year with winning the gold ring scheme run by Sharp Cumming & Durning for them.
Well another very erratic and unpredictable day for fanciers and their pigeons.
Birdage is shrinking weekly, how many will get to the last hurdle as the most testing events from 275miles,320miles,380 miles still to come in the last six races.
Hopefully the three comeback races in between will give light relief.
Next week we are back at Alnwick around the 90 mile mark.
I personally think it’s not too far down the road in the future the furthest federation racing will go is 200 miles ,as it will not be financially sustainable for federations to follow the traditional programme, due to the low numbers going to these events.
And if you wish the distance racing you will have to join a National.
Just my opinion!
