LANARKSHIRE FEDERATION

Tom Corrie jnr

Lanarkshire Federation - Longtown 1 race 15-4-17

The first race is here, a bit early for some, but for those who wished to compete it was around the 70 mile mark.
Longtown is a small town in Northern Cumbria, England, on the English/Scottish border, three miles from Gretna Green and six from Carlisle. The convoy of 3450 birds were away at 11am in a fresh west, north west wind, flying back into Central Scotland. The winners were around the 1 hr 50 minute mark.

It was a real difficult day for the pigeons for a first race ,with most only having half the numbers sent at clocking. There was an initial flurry of the winning birds and then big gaps and large numbers not homing. This wasn't enjoyable for the pigeons or the fanciers. Many birds returned with injuries possible due to the hedge hopping conditions or the predators on their backs. Large numbers were reported as not homing and will probable never be seen again.
Anyway everyone has their choice to send or not but going on this race it will be a short season for most,.

It seems odd that a club that is direct south of the federation and the race point is nearly 200 ypm of the winning velocity in the federation.
Possible the birds were coming up the previous years route.
Racing from this line makes fanciers uptight/disillusioned, having to spend all day and next awaiting their pigeons arrival, with large numbers missing, I don?t think Is this pigeon racing!

This week?s winner is down in the west section, belonging to the Greenfield club. Member Mio Krivokapick, Mio is a top fancier who always gets the best from one of the smallest teams of racers in the federation.
The winner is a yearling Blue W/F and is one of 5 spare cocks in the loft. Mio bred him from birds he got from Mick McCormack and Dave Pirie Aberdeen.
Mio regularly flies very well indeed to his small loft. Pound for pound he would rate as good as anybody in the Lanarkshire Fed.

Well done to all the winners this week.

Around the clubs that I could get information on, why do I bother!
