Lanarkshire News - Bubwith Race 23/5/26

This week we arrive at Bubwith in East Riding of Yorkshire which is 194 miles back into lower Central, Scotland.

The 2,900 birds were liberated at 08 00hrs in a light west wind, this was a significant drop in numbers from last week’s 4,400 convoy. the previous week was a "terrible" race for returns across the federation, with most lofts taking a hefty hit.

This week’s 1st Open federation took 4 hrs 21minutes into the North of the federation recording a velocity of 1309 ypm. Only three pigeons recorded into the 1300s with a very steady days racing for most of the convoy.

The weather was excellent with partial cloud and a warm air flow.

This week’s winner is a very special yearling, who recorded 1st club,6th Open 4,400 birds last week and 1st sect,1st Open federation 2,900 birds this week.

I took the time to phone its owner Graham Shaw of Chryston club to get the low- down on this cracking pigeon.

Graham Shaw winner of 1st sect,1st Open this week.

Graham was the first to thank his fellow club mates Stewart Young and Karl Kelly(Lanarkshire federation Champion loft 2026) for providing him with some youngsters last season to try and the blue Custer yearling cock is one of these birds.

Graham races his pigeons on the natural system being exercised twice per day with all birds being turned out the loft at 7am and then again at 7pm.He is presently sitting pot eggs on the nest cycle.

They received some training before racing commenced using the federation transporter for 30 miles trainers. No further training with birds been raced weekly, this being his fifth race.

He was fed like the rest using Gerry plus and barley in build up with Bamford Chaos mixture at the end of week. They receive breeding mixture on return on race day.

Thanks to Graham for the information on his brilliant winner!
