PIGEON TOPICS
Stuart Bowman
Hi again there folks, it's been a long time since the yb racing finished. I have not been able to send any club results in as I have not had Microsoft word in my laptop. This is strange as I only bought it in May and it was absolutely brand spanking new and I took it for granted that this was one of the many things on it. It was microsoft compatible though, so you have to pay for it if its not built in alredy. Which means I have to buy a disc to install. HD tv springs to mind! Even though your tv is HD compatible you don’t get it unless you pay Sky. So my advice to anyone buying a laptop or computer is to double check that it has the things on it that you want. The few articles that have been appearing have came from one of my daughter's laptop, which she says is not the greatest but does the job. It should do, it’s not too old either. The problem was I discovered in the latter half of the yb racing that her's didn’t have Microsoft word on it either as she had been getting it for free. She had some way of getting it for free off the Internet. I had all the club details of the winning pigeons etc and couldn’t get it typed up. Then it was going to cost me quite a few quid to get it installed into my laptop and I didn’t want to spend money on it as I was about to go on holiday for 2 weeks. So I waited till I came back and happened to be speaking to the Rosyth club secy Gordon Cree, who said he had a disc to install word into my laptop. That’s exactly what we did and it cost me nothing, hence this short report finally appearing. There are other ways to get stuff into print but I think word is the best and has all the appropriate help on it.
Anyway, all's well that ends well and the first 4 club results are as follows. At Berwick (1) race the winner was John Skelton with a red cock just flying to the perch. This one was a Busschaert cross Gilbertson. John was also 2nd with another flying to the perch and was of De Baere bloodlines. 3rd & 4th places went to school boy Liam Dow. The first one a blue cock bred by club mate Henry Guthrie from birds supplied by yours truly. This one was racing to the perch as was Liam's next one which was also a blue cock. The latter cock was bred by Liam's uncle Pancho who lives in Glencraig. Liam's dad Alan is also a former fancier and gives Liam a good help training the pigeons and doing plenty loft chores while Liam is at school. In fact Liam is at the same school as my son Stuart that being Beath High School here in west fife. Liam also a keen footballer should not have to look too far for advice when his other uncle George also flies in the same club as Liam and i do. So between the 3 three brothers they should be able to make a good fancier out of this young man. Well done Liam, if you keep it up through good and bad you will definitely become a good fancier!
From Berwick (2) no sooner was I talking about Liam, and I am now talking about his uncle George who wins the first four in this race. George timed four pigeons in, all flying to the perch. The first one a chq Van De Weyer cock bred from birds his brother Pancho at stock. George's 2nd club was a chq pied hen bred from birds of Digger Taylor of Nottingley in Yorshire. George's next two were a blue cock and a mealy hen also bred from Digger Taylor's birds. A clean sweep George, well done again!
From Hexham George Dow won the first 3 places. The first one a Red Chq cock racing to the perch. This one was bred by George's brother Pancho from birds he got from a fancier in Aberdeen. 2nd club was a mealy cock flying to the perch. This one was from the pigeon that won Ripon yb race last year. She was from Crossgates Special, 1st Open SNFC Falaise crossed with a sister of Westbound (2) of George Rankin & son Gareth. George's 3rd club was a chq cock flying to the perch like the others. This one was bred from birds through Digger Taylor of Nottingley in Yorkshire. In 4th place was Stuart Bowman with a light chq cock flying to the perch and was one of a gift pair given to me by Norman Renton of Foulden from his national team.
At Whitton Castle the winner was the club Secy Gordon Cree with a home bred chq hen flying to the perch. Gordon was also 4th with another chq hen flying to the perch. She was a gift from Stuart Bowman from the cock which won 31st Open Arras National this year and his mate which won 49th Open Arras National same race. George Dow was 2nd & 3rd with a chq hen and a blue cock both flying to the perch. The first one was from one of 6 pigeons he got from Jim Hannah crossed with a Digger Taylor of Nottingley pigeon while the last pigeon was bred from Diggers pigeons.
Before closing can I remind fanciers that the Kingdoms Annual Presentation is on Sat 5th November at the Gilvenbank Hotel Glenrothes. I understand that Peter Virtue is the main guest for the evening, a fancier who needs no introduction! It’s always an excellent night with fanciers coming from far and wide. If you would like to go along give President Peter Penman a call on 01592- 564654.If you fancy staying the night like some fanciers are then there are rooms available, see you there.
