A  BRIEF  LOOK  BACK  AT  THE  PACKMOOR  OLD  BIRD  SEASON

Hello Everyone,

Just a few words on the old bird season here at Packmoor...

At the start of the season things didn't look too good for racing in the Moorlands Federation, but by the end of the old bird season things looked a lot brighter.  Anyway here at Packmoor with the members responding to the call for support for the new Staffs Moorlands committee, the first race of the season saw increased birdage with over 450 birds for the first race and after that we had good turnouts for every race. In fact the average birds per race went up from 299 birds in 2016 to 340 birds in 2017.  The members of Packmoor have topped the Staffs Moorlands Federation four times this year, that is better than other years and you would not say we have the best location in the Fed.

So that itself is a great achievement.  Sadly, we lost one very good member in Stefan Lazarski, who has been a member for as long as I can remember, always there to help when needed.  Anyway Steph decided to retire from racing and just keep a few for a hobby, so enjoy your birds Steph and remember you are always welcome at Packmoor HS.

A true gentleman of the sport was always the first to congratulate a member if they had won the race with a handshake.

As one member decided to retire from the club, another one decided to apply and was accepted so we welcomed Mr & Mrs Les Henson to Packmoor.  We are looking forward to Les & Val helping us to regain the Championshsip League Trophy that we lost last year to Macclesfield.

Now that the old birds are finished we turn to the young birds and the big money races that the Moorlands Federation run like the Gold Ring Race and the Breeder/Buyer Race plus all the other races on the Fed programme - exciting times ahead
