Hello folks,
North Liverpool Federation’s 2nd race of the 2014 season took place from Monmouth on the glorious morning of Saturday 19th April. The convoy were liberated in a south east wind at 10.30am and a fast race ensued with the leading pigeons recording velocities in the lower 1600s. Time to take a look at the results.
Colin & Alan Baker’s widowers slipped into gear to take first, third and fourth positions at the Edge Hill (11/149). The winner on 1605 is a 2 year old black Alfons Slaets cock that was 4th club in the season opener. The second timer on 1590 is a 2 year old blue white flight Jos Thoné cock bred by Joe Pearman and the third timer on 1588 is a 4 year old Vandenabeele cock bred by Jimmy Mannion that has won 2x1st and 2x2nd from France. Terry Snagg takes 2nd position on 1592 with a 2 year old blue white flight cock that is also a previous winner from France. Congratulations Al & Colin.
Steve & Debbie Walsh continue their winning ways at the Central (11/196) with a 2 year old blue cock of Roger Maris bloodlines bred by Mick Lennon of Nuneaton. This cock is known as Big Ceres and has now amassed 3x1st club having won at Ludlow and Hereford in 2013 as well as good fed positions, 1630. Scribe Daniel adds a big well done to Debbie Walsh as husband Steve has been working away and has little contact with the birds lately. Danny Regan makes his return to the fray of old bird racing by taking 2nd position with a Jimmy Roberts of Childwall bred yearling soon-to-be roundabout cock that was racing to eggs, 1590. Tony Hawkins takes 3rd position with a yearling Lambrecht cock. This family has raced really well for Tony since he acquired them a couple of years back, 1589. Terry Shawcross takes 4th position with a 2 year old hen through good friend Albie Owens of Speke, 1582. Stevie and Debbie win pools of £45, Terry Shawcross £15, Tony Hawkins £9 and Billy Early £6. John & Alan Johnson & Darren Pattison shut out the first four position at the Spellow, recording velocities of 1620, 1617 1616 and 1611. The winner is a yearling Marcelis through Dave Murphy and J & J Campbell, followed by their very reliable Kellens cock of Tommy Craven origins. The third timer is also a Marcelis via J & J Campbell and he is also a very reliable pigeon having won cards every year of his racing career. The fourth timer is a Willy Jacobs bred via stock obtained from Warren, Son & Garrity and this bird scored a few times last year as young-bird. Thanks Darren and congratulations mate.
John Pugh continues his remarkable start at the Crosby & Blundellsands once more taking the first four positions. All four of his pigeons originate in the lofts of Campbell Brothers and all are 2 year old widowers. The winner has previous form with a win at Bedhampton in 2013, the second timer was also bridesmaid last week and the third timer has a win at Hereford in 2013. Thanks Joe.
Fred Lloyd, Kev Moran & Ashley Healey are another loft showing impressive form and once more emerge victorious at the Litherland (12/367). The winner recording 1634 is a widowhood hen bred by good friend Micky Collins and she took 3rd club, 4th NL Fed last week. Second timer is last week’s fed topper and it is another hen bred through a John & John Gosling Wildemeersch cock and an Ian Gibb Soontjen hen on 1631. Third timer is a widowhood cock bred by Charlie McCardle & Terry Archbold on 1626. Mr & Mrs Ted Davin senior & Jock McCafferty take 4th position with a 2 year old Van Loon x Walter Docx bred by Ted Davin junior & Son on 1615. The members of the Litherland would like to offer sincere congratulations to Freddy, Kevin & Ashley for 2 weeks of fantastic racing. Thanks Ted.
John Warren, Son & Marty Garrity make it 2 from 2 at the Bootle (5/72) as well as taking third and fourth positions on 1624, 1606 and 1605. The lads clock a brother to last week’s winner for top spot and all three timers are of Walter Docx bloodlines. RSMF Lofts remain in the hunt this week, taking 2nd position on 1608. Thanks Keith.
Graham, Wendy & Connor Muirhead super consistent widowers shut out the first four positions at the Riverside (8/136) on 1622, 1607 and 1592 (x2). The winner carries on from his victory at Hereford last week when also finishing 19th NL Fed. The second timer has its origins in the stock loft of club-mate Paddy Cousins. The third timer is a previous winner of 2x1st and the fourth timer is a son off the good cock, a winner of 7x1st and 6x2nd. Congratulations to Graham, Wendy & Connor from all the Riverside members. Jeff Bowman takes first, third and fourth positions at the Pirrie (8/192) recording velocities of 1618 and 1608 (x2). The winner is a yearling blue pied widower whose sire is a Willy Jacobs while the dam is a Lindelauf which Jeff obtained from Billy Holt. Unfortunately there are no details on Jeff’s other two timers. John & Gary Hartless and Paul Howard take 2nd position on 1612 with a Jimmy Hampson bred 2 year old blue cock which scored as a young bird and also won for the lads in 2013. Thanks Irene.
Charlie McCardle & Terry Archbold take 1st and 3rd positions at the Netherton. The winner is a yearling blue pied Walter Docx cock winning his first prize. Sire is ‘43’ a winner of 5x1st for John McDonald & Mick Carey. ’43’ also bred 6x1st for John & Mick before returning to Charlie & Terry when he finished racing and has bred winners every year. Dam is nest mate to ‘02’ a winner of 7x1st club, 1st NL Fed and 2nd NW Combine. The second timer is the same yearling Frans Zwols widowhood cock which took 1st club, 8th NL Fed last week. He is bred out of direct stock and was Charlie’s fancied pigeon rewarding the faith placed in him by winning the marking station £5 nom. John & John Gosling and Thomas Grice take 2nd position with a yearling celibate hen that took 4th in the Tailors Arms Breeder Buyer in 2013, winning £1600. Robbie Kershaw takes 4th position with a yearling widowhood cock taking its first prize and he is bred through stock from good friend Paul ‘Onion’ Hourihan. Thanks Terry & congratulations mate.
Vin Maguire was kept very busy when taking the first 6 positions at the Kirkdale (7/96). First four velocities are 1605 (x2), 1603 and 1597. The winner adds to a previous channel victory and is direct off ’70’ who is of Syndicate Lofts bloodlines. Second timer is a son of ’22’ which was bred by Ted Davin & Son (Thanks Ted - Vin) Third timer is a yearling widowhood hen, followed by ‘81’ Kirkdale bird of the year in 2013 and he is another bred down from Vin’s very good ‘22’. Stevie Williamson & John Murphy take 1st and 3rd positions at the Vauxhall (269 pigeons) with their first timer duplicating its’ performance to top the Federation. The winner is a Mandeleart out of stock obtained from John Gerard and is the same way bred as Thomas Devine’s (Maghull) Liverpool Amal topper, while another brother is a winner of 1st club, 6th NL Fed, 15th NW Combine. The second timer is a Bogaert also out of John Gerard stock and he has previous form with 2x3rd clubs. John Rimmer is edged into 2nd position this week with a yearling blue cock of Jimmy Bauress and John Murray x Jimmy Weeder bloodlines recording 1628 and this is his first card. John also took the £50 club nom and Tommy says he was last seen taking the lads to the Green Man pub! Kelly Brothers, Son & Devine take 4th position with a Border Lofts Heremans Cuesters yearling cock taking its’ first prize card. John Nixon clocks a brace ahead of the field to take 1st and 2nd positions at the Tailors Arms (20/456) on 1616 and 1612. The winner is a yearling widowhood cock bred by club-mates K & M Vaughan. The second timer is a yearling Lambrecht widowhood cock. George Pendleton takes 3rd position with a yearling widowhood cock. The sire of this pigeon is a winner of 2x1st Liverpool Amalgamation and the dam is also a winner in the North West Classic Club. Miller & Sons take the top two spots at the Princes Park. The winner is a yearling cheq Willy Jacobs hen taking her second red card and she is a daughter of Warren, Son & Garrity’s North West Combine winner. Tom’s second timer is a red Gevaert x Van Reet cock which has taken the bridesmaid position to loftmates twice. He is a son of ‘Broken-Toe’ a winner of 9x2nd prizes, 5 of which were to loft-mates. Billy Dooley, Paddy Rowan and Sid Chapman take 3rd and 4th positions. The first timer is a cheq white flight Lambrecht cock bred from directs, followed by a blue yearling Lambrecht x Van Reet bred out of the race team. Thanks Tom and congratulations mate.

I’m still playing catch up with the results but we should be up to speed shortly.
