Hello folks,
North Liverpool Federation’s fifth young bird race of 2014 took place from Mangotsfield on Saturday 23rd August. The strings were cut at 10.15am and the convoy of 2,311youngsters made for home in a light north west wind. The recent run of good races and returns experienced by the federation came to an abrupt and unfortunate halt and gauging the incoming scribes’ reports, a lot of lofts competing experienced moderate to substantial losses.

Alan & Colin Baker take 1st position at the Edgehill (7/120) clocking a blue Mr & Mrs Duggins Janssen hen bred by club-mates Paddy Faser & Norman Skelton (thanks lads) on 1244. Brian & Terry Snagg take 2nd and 4th positions on 1214 and 1206, clocking a pair of nest-mates, a cheq hen and cheq cock bred out of their own tried and trusted bloodlines. Billy Chapman & Sons take 3rd position on 1210 with a blue Busschaert hen bred via stock obtained from Batt & Turner of Leeds. Congratulations Al & Colin.

John Pugh takes the first four positions at the Crosby with all 4 youngsters bred out of his Campbell Brothers stock. Congratulations John on a great team performance. Thanks Joe.

Steve & Debbie Walsh take the first three positions at the Central clocking a trio of Roger Maris youngsters via Micky Lennon of Nuneaton. Terry Hodson takes 4th position clocks the nest-mate to last week’s winner, a Jimmy Roberts bred Karl Boeckx x Marcelis x van Reet hen sent sitting that was won in a raffle at one of the winter shows. The Central lads would like to congratulate Steve & Debbie on a great team performance. (Well done from me too Deb & Ste). Thanks Terry.

Sprint maestro Tommy Hibbs assisted by his good lady Karen fire back to the top of the result at the Pirrie to take the first three positions as well as a one two in the federation. The winner is a Belgian rung hen followed by a blue cock bred by good friend Simon Snook and a Foxwood Lofts bred cheq pied cock. Billy Fulton takes 4th position this week to keep up his consistent form. Congratulations Tommy & Karen on some great flying. Thanks Jim.

Fred Lloyd, Kev Moran and Ashley Healey take 1st and 4th positions at the Litherland. The winner comes via the loft of good friend Micky Collins while the second timer is homebred via the ‘Sangers Cock’. Ted Davin & Son take 2nd and 3rd positions this week, clocking a brace of Heremans Ceusters youngsters bred by Tam Blair of Scotland (thanks Tam). Thanks Ted.

Charlie McArdle & Terry Archbold take 1st, 3rd and 4th positions at the Netherton (6/130) on 1288 and 1279 (x2). The winner is a direct Heiner Mandelartz and is a g‘son of the ‘50/50’. Second timer is a Koopman bred by good friend Brian Leadbetter and this timer adds to a recent 16th NL Fed from Monmouth. Mick McDonald takes 2nd position on 1284 with a youngster through Charlie Davies and Charlie McArdle & Terry Archbold stock and this timer adds to a 2nd NL Fed Ludlow. Thanks Stan.

Ste Williamson & John Murphy take 1st, 2nd and 4th positions at the Vauxhall. The first and third timers are both Mandelartz down from the 50/50 lines with a young cock from Taylor & Edwards ‘Fighter’ lines sandwiched in between. John & Fran McDowell take 3rd position with a homebred Vandenabeele, sire is a son of Myrtle Lofts Jester 320 while the dam is a direct Gaby via John Blundell. Thanks Tom.

John, Tony & Amy Porter take 1st and 2nd positions at the Taylors Arms (17/488) clocking a brace of Ganus hens. K & M Vaughan take 3rd position with a homebred van der Merwe hen. J & J Corbett take 4th position with a homebred Lambrecht cock. Scribe jim passes on his congratulations to John, Tony & Amy on a great result (Congrats from me too guys). Thanks Jim.

John Warren, Son & Marty Garrity take 1st and 2nd positions at the Bootle (6/92) followed by Eddie Bradley in 3rd and 4th positions, no further details to hand. Thanks Keith.

Graham, Wendy & Connor Muirhead take 1st 2nd and 4th positions at the Riverside (5/88) on clocking three of their Willy Jacobs youngsters. The winner is bred out of ’09’ a winner of 2x1st club, 9th and 10th NL Fed in 2014, followed by a previous prize-winner of 4th club and a fed placing and finally one bred at Paddy Cousins. Brown Brothers take 3rd position with a Willy Jacobs youngster bred by Ernie Goodyear and this was their first timer last week. Thanks Ian.

Sid Powell takes the first three positions at the Princes Park with the nest-mate to last week’s 4th place winner and it is a blue cock bred out of the 8x1st winning ‘brother’. The dam is a daughter of the other brother, a winner of 6x1st. Second timer is a mealy pied van Reet out of the old mealy pied cock which has bred 3 separate winners this season alone and the third timer is another mealy pied this time a hen and she is a half sister to the previous pigeon. Billy Dooley, Paddy Rowan & Sid Chapman take 4th position with a van Lint through Louella stock. Thanks Tom.

Kevin Birkett takes 1st position at the Kirkdale (6/156) on 1256, clocking a cheq cock which came to him as an egg via the loft of Roy Reid (thanks Roy). Sire is a Soontjen and is a winner of 3rd NL Fed Fougeres, while the dam is a Vandenabeele hen and is a winner of 9th NL Fed Fougeres. Paul Caffrey & Son take 2nd and 4th positions on 1253 and 1240 with a blue Hardy Krueger hen bred by Premier Stud, followed by a Belgian rung cheq pied cock. Tony Owens takes 3rd position on 1240 with a cheq hen bred by good friend Tommy Hibbs (thanks Tom). Thanks Mark.

Thomas Gilligan takes 1st and 2nd positions at the Spellow this week on 1284 and 1281 with a couple of Ste Williamson & John Murphy bred youngsters. The winner is a Mandelartz followed by a Bogart x Mandelartz. John & Alan Johnson and Darren Pattison take 3rd position on 1280 with a Willy Jacobs youngster via Warren, Son & Garrity stock. Eddie Spencer takes 4th position on 1278 with a youngster via stock obtained from the late Tommy McFadden. Thanks Darren.

Congratulations to all of our prize-winners this week especially to our Federation topper Tommy Hibbs & wife Karen on a superb team performance in what were less than straighforward conditions, well done guys.

Well I hope there are youngsters still making their way back for all of you. After the hard old bird season endured by most if not all of us, this race was a setback we could least afford, especially at this late stage when racing and returns had appeared fairly settled. If I never have to read the word Mangotsfield again it will be too soon.
