LOYALTY.

This is a good quality to help you persist in human relationships and with all your dreams, interests and visions for the future. The maintenance of loyalty generates stability in your life, and expertise in specialist areas. Some of my contacts and friends go back to the 50s and 60s. The converse is short-term enthusiasm and fickle relationships which dissolve as quickly as they were generated. You can be loyal to your own intuitive view and philosophy on life. It is comforting to maintain membership of different organisations where personal interests can be enjoyed. Most of all ,it is valuable to be true to your own beliefs, apart from naive dogma. Some of the more convincing people do manifest integrity, which a shrewd eye can spot.

LISTENING TO THE SOUND OF NATURE

In the autumn sun i sat out today. The sound of rustling leaves in the warm air was mesmerising,so pure,so calming and potent with energy and life. A lone swift stalled in mid air to scoup up a hapless insect. In sweet escape ,i felt a gentle union with my surroundings, not of electric mysticism ,but passive acceptance. A man may be born again in the awesome presence of nature, where the deepest secrets can not be known,by the wisest man. My garden niche is a cloister inducing quiet reverie.

NOWT BUT THE TRUTH

I reveal all i know in my books and articles, and there is no reason to do otherwise. The work must flow from the centre of your head to do this, and to articulate the essence of your experiences. A life of study has not been in vain. Access to write in the media is freely available to those with a talent for creative writing. People react in different ways to what is out there, yet as long as you believe in what you print should be the maxim. I have managed to document what i have learned over 65 years in love with birds. The books are like a legacy charting the enthusiasms of one lone individual -each day generates a type of inspiration.

END OF SEASON.

Now September and the racing is soon to come to an end of a great season. Now is the time to work on the condition, growth and moult of your birds. They need high quality feeding and all they can eat with daily time out of the lofts. If you have tested all of your racers in race reality, then no culling should be necessary before winter. Stock can be separated til pairing to assist rest and the moult, and the racers too ,yet open loft on alternate days. Check the health of late returning racers and look after them for the future. It is logical and wise to persevere with stock that have bred quality birds in actual racing. With our stock team we have all the right genes with no further intros needed from allies or swaps. Have a good rest, reflect, analyse and perceive where you need to improve. The man makes the birds what they are by practicing his knowledge. Time to visualise and start to realise ambitions and dreams for next year,as this one has bitten the dust.

LET THE BIRDS DO THE WORK.

End of the season and many fanciers are tired, depressed and with burn out symptoms. Most have been too stressed during the season, too emotional, excitable and overworked. It is imperative to keep your system as easy as possible to execute in practice and be philosophical over perceived failures in results and outcomes of all your efforts. Be objective, race the minimum no of races in build up to the big ones, and house as many birds as you can sustain interest in.I like to concentrate on breeding of a strain plans and my writing. I like nice big increases in distance to test and fitten the birds as soon as possible. A wise fancier plans his future in the present as you reap what you sow cliche. It is essential to ponder, contemplate and think, and act on your wisdom.

BLOWING YOUR OWN TRUMPET?

If you do well, stand up and be counted-in my time i have played a full brass band. The great practitioner was Ali,who was as good as his word. Shrinking violets are consumed by the ratrace. With age ,you may polish it more and blow it with quieter notes. There is a difference between delusions of grandeur and celebration of good, actual results. On the way up the perfectionist will learn from self criticism . With the passage of time every single trumpet goes quiet, does it not?? History resonates with the sounds of the good and the great.
