DETAILS

by Jim Emerton

The unified whole of a successful loft and system, including the manager, consists of lots of interconnecting details which must be in place. As the system of racing and breeding evolves via experiment and practice, we note all the little aspects that may give us a competitive edge. It is wise to record all the useful bits of feeding/exercise on a daily basis and all that constitutes the loft management, since you will need to repeat it or modify it on a yearly basis. Try and make your notes and pedigrees as precise and accurate as possible, as these tend to be breeding grounds for errors - use a pedigree as a rough guide only, even if it looks professional. As you become successful the big picture will become clear, where small benefits can be added after new insights and the acquisition of modern knowledge. The aim is perfection, although gradual improvements will suffice. After years of mental focus you may become a specialist in your chosen discipline of racing and able to make a contribution to further knowledge.
