The Hardy Way Dorset Federation Presentation Evening 2019.

Hello Ladies and Gentelmen I do hope your all in good spirits, welcome to this special editon of Racing pigeons the Hardy way , in which we will celebrate the hard work and achivements of the federation membership during the 2019 racing season. Events such as this really are great as they give everyone the opertunity to come together and enjoy everything that is good about the sport of pigeon racing . The venue for the evening was The Bridge House at Longham where those in attendance were treated to an excellent Carvery and desert .

Federation Chairman Mr John Ravenhill comenced the evenings proceedings with a short address in which he gave a vote of thanks to our secretery Mr Bernard Archer for l his hard work during his first year in office . Thanks were also given on behalf of the members to our conveyer Tony Hopkins also, Mr Archer expressed his thanks to Steve Travers, Anne Hooper, Jenny Mills, and Karen Carpenter for their help in getting him established into the job.

Our guests of honour for the Evening were James and Vicki Cooke of Tumely lofts stud in Devon , this fine establishment needs no introduction to the members of The Dorset federation as not only many Dorset fanciers purchased birds from the stud , but Tumly lofts have been great supporters of our federation for many years now with our breeder buyer sales . During the course of the evening James gave a short speech in which he said that along with other fanciers from their area, they have resurrected the Bude Club and that their daughter is fast becoming an accomplished fancier in her own right. I am sure I speak for the entier Dorset federation we wish their daughter all the very best in the racing seasons to come!

On now to the main event . The Name of Robbie Hooper is no stranger to success and 2019 has proved to be no exception as flying with the Rossmore Flying Club Robbie Hooper was the highest trophy winner winning the Old Bird Average and the Old Bird Continental Average, the three Longest Old Bird races, The Bergerac Cup, Alex Summers Trophy and 40th Year Trophy.

Brilliant pigeon racing by anyones standards so congratulations to him . I am sure that from reading these notes during the past season that the fancy will have taken note of the phenominal racing results that Mel and Sue King have attained at Fed level this year topping the fed sheet on several occasions well I am sure it will come as no surprise that thanks to their excellent flying this incredible partnership were winners of the individual points trophy for 2019 which they won by a Westcountry mile, the partners also won the young bird averge trophy , this once again confirms their status as one of the premier partnerships within the county of Dorset!

Each year the eight clubs in the Federation compete for the Jubilee Shield Points trophy which this year was won by the fanciers at the Rossmore Flying Club whom amassed a staggering grand total of 123 points, way ahead of the runners up Upton W.M.F.C on 87 points. Congratulations to them on their great flying throught the season . The shield was collected on behalf of the the Rossmore Flying Club by joint secretaries Anne Hooper and Sue King, which is very fitting considering the valiant efforts of both the Hooper and King lofts during 2019 , I think its fair to say a standard has been set which we all must try to emulate in the season to come.

Vice Federation Chairman Mike Blake from St Leonards &St Ives RPC is a real character and a fierce competitor with his Gaby Vandenabeele pigeons , which this year won him the Dorset feds breeder buyer race. The Federation charity race this year took place from the french town of Carentan and was won by Mr Clive Harrison. Another loft which did very well this year is that of Mr&Mrs Laurence Cowley of CrossWays FC whom for their efforts in 2019 are awarded the two Bird Average longest Young bird race.

In a lovely end to the evening it was discovered that in another part of the Bridge House a family party was taking place to celebrate the 60th Wedding Anniversary of Parkstone club and Fed member Derek Bartlett and his lovely wife Eileen, they came and joined in for a few minutes for a photo call, Congratulations from the Dorset Fed members and we hope you celebrate many more years together! Before I close this article I have been informed that At the time of writing we have just had the Programme meeting, it’s now on the website .

There you have it folks what a year 2019 has been “Racing The Hardy Way “ , So lets raise a glass to The Dorset Federation founded in 1961 and focused on flying high into 2020!
