Derby Notes

 

Saturday July 9th saw the final old bird race of the season which was the blue ribbon event from Noirt a distance of 460 miles into Derby. The pigeons were liberated at 11-00 with no wind given but turning south westerly once they had crossed the channel. This turned out to be a hard race with only one pigeon making it into Derby on the day which belonged to Steve & Sue Redfern & Family and was a yearling cheq hen which took the red card in Etwall & District Flying Club with a velocity of 1294.Their next arrival was the following morning and was a yearling blue cock doing 793 ypm to take fourth. In second position with a four year old mealy pied cock was Dave Williams & Son with A. Peach & Son in third position with a three year old cheq cock doing 841.

In Ilkeston Bulls Flying Club John & Pamela Dowd finished of a excellent old bird season with a three year old cheq cock taking the red card doing 1156 followed by a two year old blue cock doing 582 to take fourth position. In second position with a three year old blue hen doing 628 was Derek Ford followed by Roger & Mark Duffield with a two year old slatey hen doing 601 to take third position.

 

In Osmaston Park Homing Society the Stone family kept it going with Steve Stone taking first & fourth positions. His winner was a four year old cheq pied cock doing 1123 followed by a two year old mealy cock doing 793.In second position was Mick Willis & Family with a five year old blue hen doing 1079 with S & H W Hall in third with a two year old blue hen doing 973.

 

In Derby Premier Flying Club L.D.S. Johnson took the top two positions. Their winner was a two year old mealy cock doing 1015 followed by a two year old red cock doing 634.In third & Fourth positions was Paul & Lynda Todd with a three year old blue pied hen doing 604 followed by a two year old blue hen doing 589.
