Osmaston Park Homing Society Shows 2016

Sunday November 6th was the start of a series of six shows for the Osmaston Park Homing Society. There were two classes. Eye sign and Pieds any age. Judging the eye sign class was Phil Wright who as always did a excellent job with 53 birds in the class. Taking the first four, reserve & Highly Commended was Mick Willis & Family. Taking very highly commended was Fred Stevenson with Ron Hall & grandson George (Hall & Tarry) taking commended.
In the pieds class there were 45 birds and the judge for this one was yours truly (Alan Houldsworth).
The winner in this class was again Mick Willis & Family also taking fourth & reserve. Second position went to Dave Waddington. Third Very Highly commended and Highly commended went to Jason Phillips with commended going to Paul Adams. Donating £5 for the best in show was yours truly and this was won by Mick Willis & Family.
Sunday November 13th was the second show which was Old Cocks & Old Hens T.T.W. In the old cocks class they were 50 birds entered and the standard was as usual very high. Judging this class was the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation secretary Graham Evans. Taking the red card was Yule & Inger who are always a force to be reckoned with at the show events. In second position was Jason Phillips with Mick Willis & Family taking third position. Dave Waddington took fourth & reserve with hardworking club secretary Steve Stone taking Very Highly Commended. Taking Highly Commended & Commended was Paul Adams.
In the old hens class there was an entry of 58 birds and just like the old cocks were in excellent condition. The judge for this class was Keith Burton. Getting the red card also second position & Commended plus best in show for the second week in succession was that family partnership of Mick Willis & Family. Taking third position and very highly commended was Mick Stone with reserve & highly commended going to Yule & Inger.
Jason Phillips made a excellent gesture by donating two engraved trophies one for each class, also a rosette for best in show. He also organised a pen raffle which allows people to select a pen number. If you’re lucky enough to pick the pen with the best in show winner in you win a bag of corn and conditioner. That was a brilliant idea by Jason and thank you very much, wonderful idea. There was also a raffle with two bottles of wine plus chocolates on offer for the winners.
Sunday 20th November was the third show in the series which was young cocks & young hens through the wires. The judges on this occasion were Trevor Collins & Son Gary. In the young cocks class there were 43 birds and were judged by Trevor Collins, having yet again another difficult job on his hands with the pigeons being in first class condition.
Having an excellent show season so far and extending their lead for the points trophy was Mick Willis & Family who took six of the eight cards on offer. They were 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Reserve, very highly commended & commended with4th prize going to Fred Stevenson and highly commended going to Dave Willis & Family.
In the young hens class there were 53 birds and yet again they were all in excellent condition giving Gary a testing time. Taking the top two positions was Chris Gilliver who also won best in show and was showing for the first time at this event.( Well done Chris ).Third position went to Paul Adams with club secretary in fourth. Reserve, Highly Commended & Commended went to Dave Waddington with Yule & Inger taking Very Highly Commended.
Sunday 27th November and it was the fourth show in the series which was Old hens & Young cocks with John Dowd having a difficult job on his hands with the pigeons being in first class condition once again.
In the old hens class there were 67 entries with Yule & Inger having a good day winning 1st, 2nd, 4th & Highly Commended plus winning best in show. Mick Willis & Family took third & Commended .Taking reserve was club secretary Steve Stone with Dave Willis & Family taking Very Highly Commended.
In the Young Cocks class there were 36 entries with Dave Willis & Family taking six of the eight prizes winning 1st, 2nd, 4th, reserve, Very Highly Commended & Highly Commended with 3rd going to Yule & Inger and Greg Johnson winning Commended.
Sunday 4th December was the fifth show of the series which was Old Cocks & Young Hens. In the old cocks class there were 72 entries and the judge for these two classes was Dave Johnson & Trevor Bird. Taking the red card also Highly Commended in the old cocks class was Chris Gilliver. Second, third, fourth & commended went to Yule & Inger with reserve & Very Highly Commended going to Mick Willis & Family.
In the young Hens class making it a double was Chris Gilliver getting the red card also taking fourth position. In second position was Mick Stone with Dave Willis & Family taking third & Very Highly Commended. Reserve went to Steve Stone with John & Steve Hicks getting Highly Commended and Robert Ingleman taking Commended.
11th December being the final show of the series. There were two classes which consisted of Any Age Cocks with 49 entries & Any Age Hens with 44 entries with Darren Barks judging both classes. The winners of these classes, going into the Champion of Champions class.
Champion of Champion winners Mark Yule & John Inger - Chris Gilliver runner up in the Champion of Champions class.
Phil Wright judging the eye sign class - Yours truly Alan Houldsworth who judged the pides class - Keith Burton & Graham Evans who judged the Old Cocks & Old Hens class - Trevor & Gary Colons who judged the Young Cocks & Young Hens class.
John Dowd who judged the Old Hens Young Cocks class - Dave Johnson & Trevor Bird who judged the Old Cocks & Young Hens class - Darren Barks who judged Any Age Cocks & Any Age Hens classes - John Sheasby who judged the champion of champions class with the winner John Inger of the Yule & Inger partnership - Jason Phillips who donated two trophies and a rosette for best in show also coming up with the pen raffle idea which made £77 over the show series.
Dave & Kath Willis who donated £100 to the Champion of Champions show - Kath Willis with their winner.
Any Age Cocks class the winner once again was Chris Gilliver. Second, Reserve & Highly Commended went to Yule & Inger.Third,Very Highly Commended & Commended went to Jason Phillips with fourth going to Mick Stone.
In the Any Age Hens Class Chris Gilliver once again took the red card also third position. Second, Very Highly Commended & Commended went to Yule & Inger. Mick Willis & Family were fourth & Reserve with John & Steve Hicks taking Highly Commended.
Next it was the Champion of Champions show which meant a show entry of 12 pigeons that is the winner of each class through out the series. This was judged by John Sheasby. There was a sponsorship of £100 for this class by Dave Willis & Family. The show committee would like to say thank you to Dave Willis and Family for such a generous gesture. Thanks again.
The break down was as follows. Mick Willis & Family 4 entries, Yule & Inger 2 entries, Chris Gilliver 5 entries and Dave Willis & Family 1 entry but Dave Willis & Family chose not to participate as they were the sponsors.
Winning the championship Trophy Special rosette and £50 prize money was Yule & Inger. Second position went to Chris Gilliver winning £30 with third position going to Yule & Inger winning £20.
The show committee would like to thank all the show sponsors, judges & all those who supported the shows.
The shows were an enjoyable Sunday morning, meeting friends and making new friends,
so next year come along and join in and who knows you could have a champion of champions.
It was a very successful event with £631 being raised to be raced for in 2017.
All the pigeons in all classes were in excellent condition and it really tested the judges and congratulations to all the winners. To the show committee well done on a excellent & well organised event.
