Great race from Fougeres sees Mr & Mrs Trevor Collins & Son fill the podium.

After a one-day holdover, 447 birds entered by 46 members were liberated at Fougeres on Sunday July 26th at 08-20 in a west wind. It turned out to be a cracking race for the Swadlincote town lofts filling 8 of the top 10 spots, and Mr & Mrs Trevor Collins & Son Gary filling the first three places. Trevor & Gary had a great race taking 1st; 2nd; 3rd; 7th; on 1452; 1451.5; 1451.4; 1435. the winner was a yearling hereman Ceuster x Syndicate loft hen, she was closely followed by a 2yo Syndicate Loft x Dave Atkin hen pooled to win £147-50; and then their fancied bird, a 2yo Hereman Ceuster x Soderland & Maddison hen pooled up to win £397-50. A yearling Soontjen hen followed up to take the 7th fed spot. Well done Trev & Gaz, a fruitful day, £545 pool money won.
Debbie Fearn
T & D Fearn was 4th; 5th; and 6th fed on 1451; 1448; 1438; Debbie’s first arrival was a 3yo mealy cock from the prolific “Tiger” and “Broken Wing” lines. a 2yo mealy hen followed up, again with the “nib-nob” lines; then a yearling mealy cock, a half-brother to Debbie’s first. Taking 8th fed on 1433 were Mr & Mrs John Passey & family of the nelson with a 2yo mealy hen. John mainly flies the Geoff Kirkland birds? Rich & Gordie Jones & Batt of Hill Ridware follow up on their 2nd & 3rd fed from Carentan by taking 9th fed on 1427 with a yearling van camp hen. Completing the top ten were Mr & Mrs Alan Stretton of Swadlincote town, they timed in a yearling grizzle hen on 1423 to take 10th spot. The sire of this hen is a Leekens x M & J Gaunt from Mick Harvey; the dam, again from Mick Harvey is off the Pete Inckle stock.

At Swadlincote Town, 10 sent 91 and Mr & Mrs Trevor Collins & son showed us how to do it, taking 1-2-3 on 1452; 1451.5; 1451.4; the winner a yearling premier stud Hereman Ceuster x Syndicate Lofts hen; she was followed by two 2yo hens; the first a Syndicate Lofts x Dave Atkin which was 5th fed Carentan two weeks earlier; third was a Premier Stud Hereman Ceuster x Soderland & Maddison which was 4th fed Carentan two weeks earlier and has topped the fed before. T & D Fearn was 4th on 1451.1, agonisingly for Debbie her 3yo mealy cock was just 20 seconds behind the winner. The sire of the mealy is a brother to “Tiger”; the dam is “Nib-Nob” from the “Broken Wing” lines. A 2yo mealy hen came next, her sire is a full brother to “Nib-Nob”, and her dam is a daughter of “hideaway” and “sweetie”. a yearling mealy cock was next, his sire is the same cock that bred Debbie’s first arrival, and the dam is “Cleo” a daughter of “Hideaway”. she is the mother of 1st fed Carentan 2019.

At The Nelson, 7 sent 137 and Mr & Mrs Trevor Collins & son go one better, taking the top four on 1452; 1451.5; 1451.4; 1435. the first three were the same birds that did the 1-2-3 at Swadlincote town, the fourth a yearling Soontjen hen.
At Osmaston Park, 13 sent 108 and L.D.S. Johnson took the top spot on 1412 with one out of a grandson of G & C Coopers “Farm Boy” when paired to a daughter of “Maisie”; the Johnsons’ MNFC winner from Ancensis in 2017. Mr & Mrs Paul Todd were 2nd & 3rd on 1410; 1403; with their Lambrecht’s. Glew & O’Donnell were 4th on 1362 with a van de Wouwer.
At Etwall, 5 sent 59 and P & S Harrison took 1st & 3rd on 1421; 1340; both yearlings, well done Pete. A Peach & Son were runners up on 1351 with a 2yo cock off a bird from Melv Willis of Winshill. Willie Horton took 4th on 1339 with a 2yo hen.
Over at Hill Ridware, R & G Jones & Batt were 1st; 2nd; and 4th on 1427; 1421; 1396; the winner a Van Camp bred by Paul Stokes of the potteries. the next two were both off Stevie Price stock. Spink & Barks were 3rd on 1406 with one of the best channel hens in the area. Their blue pied Alan White hen was having her last ever race, this was her 15th channel race in a career where she has won 6 x 1st, three inland and three from over the channel, plus many other prizes. She was bought back at the Hill Ridware breeder buyer in 2014, a race she went on to win. this kind of bird takes some replacing.

The 2020 yb season kicked off with the first of two Tewksbury races. Marking was put back 24 hours due to the poor forecast on the Saturday. Sunday was a much better day, a lovely morning for the opening race. A lot of members were obviously uncertain whether their youngsters were ready, as the birdage shows. it turned out a stroll in the park for the leading birds, as per normal, some made hard work of the perfect conditions, but overall, a great start. 38 members entered 725 birds which were released at 09-20 in a w.s.w. wind. Congratulations to Kev Matthews of the Holbrook club on taking the first nine in the fed on 1856; 1855(3); 1854(4); 1853; timing his 9 arrivals in a 5 second spell. Kev flies the Soontjen and the F & J Vandenheedes, the fed winner was a bwf Soontjen hen. 10th fed on 1840 was Melv Willis of Swadlincote Town with a Staf van Reet cock.

Starting at Stretton, 4 sent 46 and Alan Brassington won a photo finish on 1833.4 with a young cock off Jack Walkers “Harry” and “Rocket” lines. Alan followed up with a chequer hen in 3rd spot on 1814. New member Kev Southall made an impressive start, taking 2nd & 4th club on 1833.1; 1804; both Van Den Bulks.
Stretton also raced out of Fougeres, but with the NMCC 5 sent 61 and Mr & Mrs Pete cox took 1st & 4th on 1438; 1372. the winner a 2yo blue cock out of a John Sheasby/ Alan Brassington cock, and a hen from Ann Smith out of her “Young Couple” and “Drum” lines. He was followed by a 3yo cock out of Ann Smiths “Young Couple” stock. Ron Dakin & Son were popular runners up on 1425; timing in a 2yo Dutch rung grizzle hen. Alan Brassington was 3rd on 1424 with a yearling cock, the sire from Tony Findon of Watnall, originates from Hereman Ceuster “Di Caprio” lines.

At Swadlincote Town, 9 sent 187 and congratulations to Melv Willis on taking the top three on 1840; 1825; 1824; the winner a blue Staf van Reet cock; runner up a red cock bred by Mick Willis & Family of Derby; third was a Soontjen x Wildie cock. Mr & Mrs Alan Stretton were 4th on 1760 with a cheq pied van den Bosche x Van Den Bulk hen; the sire off the old Albert Babington VDB; the dam from Steve Foster.
At Osmaston Park, 10 sent 201 and Tom Chadwick took the first three on 1816; 1816; 1815; the winner a Van Den Bosche x Lambrecht from Mick Willis & family; runner up a Lambrecht; followed by one from Mark Caudwell. well done Tom. Mr & Mrs Paul Todd were 4th on 1810 with a Lambrecht.

At Hill Ridware, Spink & Barks were 1st; 2nd; and 3rd on 1825; 1824; 1615. The first two well in front were a pair of D Nesbitt & Sons Leo Heremans, the sire was out of their great hen “Isla”; the dam lent to them by mark, is a winner of 5 x 1st. third was another Leo Hereman, this one bred by Shane reading of hull. Mr & Mrs K Lycett were 4th on 1609, with one out of their Champion “Eddy”. Whilst at Hill Ridware, congratulations to Mr & Mrs K Lycett on gaining 1st section; 3rd open NMCC Fougeres race on the same day. Their timer was a yearling blue cock bred by the Gordon Brothers in Northern Ireland. The sire a grandson of “Broere Goede Rode” and “Kittel”. The dam a Heremans Ceuster that won 1st combine 5,294 birds. this added to their 2nd section, 2nd open NMCC Carentan race two weeks earlier.
