LANARKSHIRE FEDERATION
Tom Corrie jnr
John Lawrie & Son 1st Open Ypres
Its every members desire to achieve the best they can in the biggest race on the calendar of the Lanarkshire federation.
On a cold July evening a dark check cock alighted onto the loft of John Lawrie & Son, like all fanciers the heart beat that little bit harder with the excitement of timing a good yin from France well actually Belgium. The excitement was rewarded with 1st Club,1st sect,1st Open.
It was a good working velocity of 1035 beating the convoy of 715 federation pigeons from around 440 miles.
This being a race we duplicated into the SNFC they also achieved 1st West Section SNFC.
Brilliant lads.
John Lawrie & Son with granddaughter Madison - Jocks Lad, 1st Open Ypres
This small dark check cock has proved to be no shrinking violet, as he had already took 14th Sect as a yearling from Eastbourne from nearly 400 miles and also won a section prize in 2016.
When handling the winner ,the first thing that I thought was, he has class feathering ,balance and a cracking pearl eye, well you could say "violet" Always a good eye for the distance.
You could say he was bred for the job out of a cock from the winning family of Tam Richardson when Tam was winning for fun at the distance and a hen out of the National winning family of John Duthie of Dundee.
The lads would like to thank these guys for their friendship and providing them with the right birds to produce this great winner.
The Lawrie family are a highly respected family of pigeon fanciers who work their socks off working for the fancy,John has been the federation clock setter for more years than i can remember and the secretary of the Cambusnethan/Morningside club for 27yrs. Thats dedication
This is what makes this sport when someone who works as hard gets just rewards.
They loves his federation and national racing and with this duplication race it gave them the chance to compete in both.
John likes any racing but finds the nationals very special and sets his stall out to have his birds right for the big races.
