Competition and still friends.
By its very nature our sport is intensely competitive and as such it does encourage drive and passion . I thought that it would be amusing to tell you a story and I will allow you to form your own conclusions. I will paint you a picture . Three friends all members of the same pigeon club enjoy a good laugh and a few pints together and one night after marking ,they decide that they will go fishing together. I would also like to add that they are the best of friends ,but they are also deeply competitive and one of them Keith has had an amazing season .
Bert, Degsy and Keith in a boat together fishing.
Bert gets out and walks across the water.
Degsy gets out and walks across the water.
Keith gets out and immediately sinks.
Bert (to Degsy): "Shouldn't we have told him about the stepping stones?"
Degsy: "What stepping stones?"
Busy week for Ken Sharratt
Paul and Ben from Blakes lofts woke me up early yesterday morning with the sound of a large diesel wagon pulling up on our drive at 0800hrs. Considering they had driven up from Dudley ,they must have set off at the crack of dawn . Smiling faces and in need of a mug of tea .It was all going well until 1000 hrs and the rain started ,that fine drizzle ,and they didn't even stop and I eventually persuaded them to have a break and stop for a sausage butty. It is looking good and as I glimpse out of the window the sun is shining and they have taken their jackets off ,so it looks promising . They work hard . They are using my squeaky wheelbarrow so I can hear them ferrying back and too . Wonder if WD 40 would help. All I need now is a dog to sort the foxes and cats out . The loft is a couple of feet off the ground ,just enough for a little dog to scurry under after any vermin. A friend of mine also have a lubberly little Terrier dog He is a charming little chap - happy as a sand boy - Fearless and discerning and fights his corner well when provoked - indeed to the demise of his tormentors - works well with his ferrets Philip and Gordon

VICTORIA HOMING SOCIETY Result of Monmouth race held on 13th August 2011 14 members sent 396 birds liberated at 1045 hrs released into light south west wind. The partnership of Davies & McDonald take first place with a little blue Hofkens Janseen on 1507.5032 taking ab pool and just a decimal behind in second place Mr & Mrs A.J . Price with another blue hen on 1507.2564 ypm and Mr & Mrs Price also take third and fourth places on 1506 and 1500 ypm. Immunity against Coccidiosis. I was talking to Geoff about about treatment for coccidious and the ability of the bird to develop its own immunity against the parasite. The actual process which allowes the immunity to be created is very complex and is not required. It suffices to know that a zero count is not required and birds will have different levels depending upon exposure and stress levels. Under normal conditions several coccidiosis cycles are necessary before full protective immunity to coccidiosis is acquired: a process that takes time, i.e., for a “natural” infection 4 weeks (partial protection) to 7 weeks (complete protection).
Selection (joke) Selection is good for the pigeon flock as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular culling of the weakest members. In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers, and that's why beer is so GOOD for yo Have a good day . I need to go because the workers need another cup of tea.
