A NEW PUBLICATION

THE THOROUGHBRED RACING PIGEON

by Liam Ó Comáin

Although for health reasons forced to leave the sport the Irish writer, Liam Ó Comáin, who gave to the English language a new word, ‘Pigeoner’, has written a book about pigeon racing. It is entitled ‘The Thoroughbred Racing Pigeon’ with the sub-title ‘Modern European Masters Of Long Distance And Marathon Pigeon Racing’.

Its contents include an introduction to the sport for the non-fancier plus a scientific study of management. In addition, an appendix includes introductions into a number of strain founders such as Aarden, Van Wanroy and Braakhuis. However the bulk of the book deals with articles on 61 modern European masters at the long and marathon distances. The countries of the latter include Scotland, France, England, Holland, Ireland, Wales, Belgium, Germany, etc.

The appendix also includes articles on the great producer ‘The Silver Fox’ whose blood permeates some of the greatest racers and breeders not only in Europe but around the world. There is also an article on the pigeon scribe, Jim Emerton, who many consider one of the best marathon pigeoners to have raced into the island of Britain.

The author reveals his love for the sport and especially his love for our racing thoroughbreds. Known as a champion of pigeon racing throughout the world, especially at the long and marathon races, his book is a valuable contribution and its contents will add to the thoughts of those fanciers who seek to develop the sport throughout the planet, especially at the longer distances.

Priced modestly at seven pounds sterling, the book is a must for the sport. It is published by the London-based publisher Publish Nation (www.publishnation.co.uk), 3 Grenville Court, Lymer Avenue, London SE19 1LR. And distributed by the United States-based Lulu.com at 3101 Hillsborough. St., Raleigh, Nc27607,USA.
