The SWELC was at Wakefield in West Yorkshire on the 26/8/23 when convoyers Peter and Carl liberated the birds at 07:45 into a south west wind on their way the top twenty open positions in the club are as follows 1st and 2nd open plus 1st and 2nd Sodbury Vale club was T Ball flying 156 miles with two birds together doing 1264.702 and 1264.509.

The top five birds in the open are all doing 1264 so a very close finish at the top.

3rd 4th and 5th open was Ray Bevan plus 1st 2nd and 3rd Longford club flying 128 miles Rays scoring birds all being previously SWELC open scoring birds and Longford club card winners Rays first a blue hen that topped the SWELC from Leicester and she’s bred from direct Dave Peeters birds Crossed P&D stud of a daughter of vale of Olympic and Saxon Blue Rays next a mealy hen that achieved 8th open SWELC Leicester being bred from a pair obtained from ex Longford club member of Ken Tovey and Rays next being a chequer hen bred from Rays best race cock on the road named the Dominator and she previously achieved 10th open SWELC Coventry all Rays birds were flown on the darkness system flying back to their perches with velocities of 1264.405, 1264.287 and 1264.052.

6th, 7th 8th and 9th open was Adrian Bishop plus 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th Oldland club flying 159 miles Adrian’s first and second a blue hen and a chequer cock both being Herman Cuesters and the next two being chequer hens being Adrian’s own bred created family of birds he’s developed flying them north road and south road switching them routes regularly through the race season all were flown on the traditional young bird natural system with velocities of 2 x 1263 and 2 x 1662.

10th, 11th, 12th and 13th open was the Walker Brothers flying 140 miles plus also achieving 1.2,3,4 in the Nailsworth club their first a grizzle hen who’s now had 3 x 1st clubs plus top twenty SWELC cards every time she’s won she’s bred from Adam Wealthall of Birmingham famous Grizzly Bear Lambrects and the famous Snowball their second a chequer hen being a Leon Hall Herman Cuesters cock crossed with their good J Adcock & Sons hen that’s bred the brothers many winners she was sent sitting 6 day old nest eggs their next a Red hen that was purchased at the new north Road amalgamations Futurity sale she was bred by Kevin & Donna Spiers of Wollaton Nottingham and their final a blue hen that was bred by Jason Woods of south Wales and was purchased at the International championship club presentation evening at the evening night bird auction all were raced on the darkness paired up or just racing back to their perches their velocities were 1261 and 3 x 1260.

14th, 15th ,17th and 18th open and 3rd and 4th Sodbury vale club was Percy Hatherell flying 153 miles with velocities doing 1259.935, 1259.740, and 2 x 1258.

16th open plus 1st South Bristol club was Steve Bryant flying 161 miles the bird a blue cock the mother is from Shaun Bowles of Lincolnshire and the father from Carl Upsall & Grandson of Boston Lincolnshire from their Peterborough federation and NRCC winning birds he was flown on the darkness system flying back to his perch with a velocity of 1259.055.

19th and 20th open was Chris & John Adams flying 154 miles their first a Hardy Kruger dark hen followed by a Wall Lunt & Green crossed Coreman blue cock all flown on the darkness system flying back to their perches with velocities of 1254 and 1253.
