PIGEON TOPICS

Stuart Bowman

The result from Rosyth wakefield race was a s follows. 1st John Skelton with a yearling deweerdt d,chq cock sent on dummy eggs. John was also 2nd with a 2yo light chq hen that was just paired up for the first time this season. This one was of De Baere bloodlines. 3rd was Lee Birkett with a 2yo chq cock on chipping eggs. The sire was from Sandy Proctor and the dam was bred by his dad Ally in the St Sefs club. 4th was Tony Celantano with a yearling mealy cock. Sorry no details of the breeding.

From the Rosyth Leicester race it turned out to be a very sticky affair for a Monday race with many pigeons homing late on the day and some not til early next morning. This caught a few fanciers unaware and some of their birds had to be repaired etc and believe me this was a real headache over the next week. Things have to move on though and as always there are winners in any race.

The winner in Rosyth was the father & son partnership of Jimmy and Dwain Bingham with a good winner, this one a 2yo blue cock.He was sent sitting on 7 day eggs and is a Van loon cross Busshaert on the dam side and the sire was a Van loon. The boys are vey pleased with this win and who wouldn’t be in this testing race, Very well done! 2nd was Stuart Bowman with a 2yo blue cock on the drive. He scored two or three times as a yb and then scored at the yb Open Wakefield and the next week he was the only bird that I failed to time in from the yb National from the five I sent having just left the town I missed him going to get the others read! He was also timed from Wanstead last year when his nestmate won the race and he came home second day injured from SNRPC Lillers race. His parents came from Jock Mackenzie from Anstruther. 3rd was also yours truly with a yearling chq cock that arrived with the above bird. He was racing to 5 day eggs and won one of the yb races last year and was bred by my friend John Clark from Airdrie. John Skelton was 4th with a yearling dark chq hen racing to 10 day dummy eggs. This one is one of Johns De weerdt pigeons that he has been flying steady with this year!

I would like to thank Brian Craig from Inverbervie for looking after my pigeon that dropped in to him sometime between 6pm and 7pm on the night of the Leicester race. Similarly I would also like to thank Jim (Chuck) Berry of Cowie who also looked after one of my birds that dropped in for a drink very early next morning from Leicester. These could just as easily been one of my favorites. Its good to know that there are fanciers out there in this day and age who are willing to help the pigeons, they are not all duffers you know! Many thanks again guys for your time and help!

Pete Penman jnr writes in with the Wakefield result at Coaltown club. Taking 1st 2nd & 3rd was Garry Hall. The first bird is a 2yo Blue wf hen sent on chipping eggs on 1313.95.She is a half sister to his 13th Open SNRPC Reims 2009 bird, closely followed by a yearling chq cock on 1311.49 flying spare. This homebred bird wins the Ylg derby. His third bird is a 2yo chq hen also on chipping eggs doing 1289.97.The sire of this bird is Garry’s Bronze Award winner with the SNRPC. In 4th with a yearling blue hen is Dave Clark. She was sent just being paired to a spare cock on 1279.46.Sire was bred by Dyke Armour from Willie Tass stock.Dam is a Busschaert Delaus. We managed 5th position this week. Seemed to be a funny race with some members getting a few quick birds and others waiting 25-30 mins before their second arrival. Cheers until next time Pete, who I thank for the result.

Well the weather has warmed up a bit leading up to and just after our next race from Biggleswade a new race point to us which to me is 305mls. The Scottish National Racing Pigeon Club will be flying from there this year from the YB National on September 4th and it will be interesting to see how the race pans out from there with the extra little bit distance. Only time will tell. While mentioning the SNRPC please remember and note that Marking for the Arras race is definitely on Thursday 15th July for a Saturday race kindly convoyed by the Glasgow fed.

Back to Biggleswade and the Rosyth winner was Gerry Gibson with a 2yo blue cock sitting 14 days. This one contains the Van Reet bloodlines. Gerry was also 2nd with a 2yo W.f cock flying home to a big y.b. This one was bred from Bert Smith from Burntislands birds. Gerry was closely followed by the Bingham duo Jimmy and Dwain with a 2yo blue cock racing to 14 day eggs. This one was a Busschaert on sires side and Van loon on dams side. 4th was Lee Birkett with a B,Pied cock on a 7 day yb. The sire was bred from Sandy Proctors YB Open winner and the dam was bred down from Jackie Wisharts 4th Open SNRPC Reims pigeon. Some fanciers feared the worse in this race and although its further than Leicester and the weather was hot the birds faired pretty well!
