Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race 2014
1st Hotspot
The 1st Hotspot in this year's Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race took place on Sunday 20th July 2014 from 103 miles. The birds had been trained daily up to 50 miles and the loft had only lost 11 of the 60 entries, which was an excellent performance by Eamon Wright (Loft Manager). Just settling 60 birds from 20 different lofts is challenging enough! Eamon deemed 44 entries were ready for the race with the other 5 in the loft not sent for various reasons. The race proved very exciting for the members of Pigeon Pixels as the forum grew with anticipation throughout the morning. The members were trying to predict the top 3 and good banter was being exchanged.
News came through at 1.45pm the birds had been liberated and 2 hours was the expected flying time. Sure enough at 3.56pm the winner was clocked. The bird in question was owned by Boxer (Rob Beynon) and was also entered into the Gold Ring Scheme by his father Dai and picked up £139 in total. No details as yet of the breeding of this pigeon.
2nd Open and under a minute later was Peter Dempsey with a pigeon bred by Eamon Wright. This pigeon is out of a cock that bred 1st section E Rosscarberry in 2013, 3rd Section E Rosscarberry in 2014, also bred 2nd, 8th, 37th and 46th North Coast Classic 2013, 19th in the final race, 2nd club Bude, 3rd club Talbenny. The hen is his daughter and they are Willy Jacobs pigeons from Gerald Delaney.
3rd Open and 2 minutes 30 seconds behind the winner was PJC (Mr and Mrs P Crawford) with a Cheq cock Van Loon. Both parents from Rab Anderson, 1st time pairing but both have bred good birds in the past.
4th Open went to Rasbull Lofts (A.Shepherd & Son) with a pigeon 3 minutes 30 seconds behind the winner. This bird also collected the Pools for the race and won £100! This bird is bred from Richard's top stock pair. The cock was bred by Alan Evans and was 4th Open Welsh Jubilee Race 500 miles. Also 2nd Section, 3rd Federation 3,652 birds. Had his first breeding season with Rasbull Lofts last year and bred 3rd Open, Final Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race and 80th Open, Final Somerset One Loft Race. The hen was bred by Martin Hayne and was Open Yearling Somerset One Loft Race 2013 winning £6,450. She is Double Granddaughter to Breakaway Boy 1st Open BBC Vire 2010. Grandmother was 1st Open Somerset One Loft Race 2010. First breeding season for this hen and first year pairing for these two pigeons.
In 5th Open was again Rasbull Lofts (A.Shepherd & Son) with the nestmate of the bird who was 4th Open, so a great start to the parents breeding career.
6th Open went to Boxer (Rob Beynon) but no details to hand of this pigeon.
Returns were excellent in the 1st Hotspot, with 42 of the 44 birds returning home! Very well done Eamon Wright on another fantastic performance. Next week the birds go to the 2nd Hotspot in this year's series! The Ace Bird will start to take shape after this race with the top 10 pigeons in the Hotspot all opening their points account in the 1st Hotspot.
