Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race 2014

2nd Hotspot

The 2nd Hotspot in the Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race 2014 took place on Friday 25th July 2014 from 103 miles. For the second week running expectation and anticipation was running high amongst members on the forum, all hoping and wishing it was going to be their bird that took the win in the latest round in the 6 races series! This week saw all 20 entrants having at least one of their entries on the starting blocks. Returns were excellent from the 1st Hotspot with 42 of the 44 entries returning home, and this week saw 45 birds going to the race with just 2 birds deemed not ready for this race.

News broke that the birds were away with Section E of the Nipa and again a 2 hour flight time was expected despite the very hot conditions. The weather did prove to be very testing with the winning bird clocking at 12.45pm.

For the second week running the money was down on the birds with £120 in the pools for the first bird clocked, There was also £75 for the 1st Open and £64 for the Gold Ring scheme. Congratulations for the 2nd week running go to Boxer (Rob Beynon) with another one of his entries to once again claim 1st Open! Rob’s youngsters are flying very well in the series to date having taken 1st and 6th Open in the 1st Hotspot! This bird is a Verheye / Frans Zwols on the dam side is a Verheye bred by Franny Perruzzi of Norwich and on the sire side is a Frans Zwols from Johnny Strachan of Scotland.

Claiming 2nd Open is Bunny (Paul Bunclark). This bird was 2 minutes behind the winner. The dam is a 2012 pigeon from Allan Jones and she raced in the RPRA OLR and 2013 yearling season in which she raced with credit and then bought in subsequent auction. The sire is a 2009 pigeon bought from Herbots from the Daniel Beelen auction and is a stunning cock. This pigeon was pooled and Gold Ringed and Paul has walked away with a very nice £184 in prize money! For £10 a bird, it pays to back your birds as Paul has proven!

3rd Open went to Peterlingham2013 (Peter Lingham) and was two and half minutes behind the winner. His entry is from a Louella Van Reet x Louella Janssen. Both parents have bred several winners over the last few years but were bought without pedigrees so cant give you much information about them... just goes to show, birds fly despite fancy paperwork!

4th Open and just 4 seconds behind 3rd Open went to Brother Loft with a venturer pigeon bred by Eamon Wright. Brother Loft are two young lads from Brecon. Luc and Ioan Zimmer 13 and 9 years of age respectively, have only had pigeons just over a year and have one of the most unique loft in the Uk! Their own entries were not ready to send in time so a venturer bred by Eamon Wright was entered on their behalf. Brother Lofts pigeon is a Herman Cuesters / Lambrect cross. First time pairing. The hen is from Premier Lofts and the cock from Wilkes Farm lofts.

5th Open went to Rasbull Lofts who was 3 minutes behind the winner with a sister to the two nestmates that were 4th and 5th in the 1st Hotspot. This bird is bred from Richard's top stock pair. The cock was bred by Alan Evans and was 4th Open Welsh Jubilee Race 500 miles. Also 2nd Section, 3rd Federation 3,652 birds. Had his first breeding season with Rasbull Lofts last year and bred 3rd Open, Final Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race and 80th Open, Final Somerset One Loft Race. The hen was bred by Martin Hayne and was 2nd Open Yearling Somerset One Loft Race 2013 winning £6,450. She is Double Granddaughter to Breakaway Boy 1st Open BBC Vire 2010. Grandmother was 1st Open Somerset One Loft Race 2010. first breeding season for this hen and first year pairing for these two pigeons, so 4th, 5th and 5th in the first two races is very encouraging indeed.

6th Open and 6 minutes behind the winner, was once again Boxer (Rob Beynon) therefore matching his result of 1st and 6th Open that he had in the 1st Hotspot. This weeks 6th Open is a Vandenabeele bred out of 2 grand children of Shadow. The sire was bred by Andrew Lawley and the dam was purchased from the late Roy Spann. A bird the same way bred won over £1000 pound at the Somerset 1 loft race last year! Returns were once again excellent with 42 of the 45 birds returning home despite the very hot conditions they were faced with. This is once again a credit to Eamon and the work he has put into this team of youngsters. Well done Eamon.

The most surprising thing about the first two Hotspots is that 19 different pigeons have featured in the top 10 positions over the 2 races to date! Only one bird has made the top 10 on both races, a bird belonging to Miiicky (Mick) coming 7th and 6th Open respectively.

This week will see the birds increased to 124 miles with the prize fund of £100 for the 1st Open, and again £64 in the Gold Ring. I am expecting the pools to be quite substantial this week given all the birds who have featured in the top 10 to date! The Ace Bird is currently jointly led by Boxer (Rob Beynon) with his two 1st Open birds securing 10 points per race to take an early advantage in this competition.
