PIGEON PIXELS ONE LOFT RACE 2014
5th Hotspot
After the excitement of the first 4 Hotspots in this year's series in the Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race, 42 birds were chomping at the bit to succeed in the 5th Hotspot from 156 miles. Results have bee outstanding this year to date and as such 42 birds out of the 60 entries were race marked. All members who entered had a bird representing them which was very pleasing for all concerned. The race took place on 16th August 2014 with the birds liberated at 9.45am in conjunction with the NIPA. The birds made short work of the race point with the winner clocking in under 3 hours for the 156 miles trip!
Once again, the prize money increased with the distance and £150 was designated for the winning pigeon. £64 was up for grabs in the Gold Ring event with 22 birds still in the running. Finally, £130 was placed in the pools, so a good amount of money on offer to the best bird on the day! It proved to a be great day for the Irish taking the first 2 places and splitting all the prize money between them!
Congratulations on winning 1st Open this week went to Peter Dempsey with a venturer bred by Eamon Wright. The pigeon was clocked 12.36.39. This bird was purchased at the start of the series as a venturer, so proves it pays to be in the race even if you haven’t any birds to send yourself. Peter collected £150 for his efforts! Sire. Belge 09, direct Willy Jacobs from Gerald Delaney who is father of 1st section E Rosscarbery ob 2013, 3rd section E Rosscarbery ob national 2014, also bred 1st club Rosscarbery, 1st club Rosscarbery, 1st club Fermoy, 2nd club Bude, 3rd club Talbenny, and 5th club Talbenny, He is also sire to Eamon’s good North Coast Classic pigeon 2013, 37th, 46th, 12th and 2nd in hotspot racing winning over 400 pounds. Sire now also to 2nd club, 12th section E 5198 birds Clonmel 2014. Dam, GB 13 L 11119, his own daughter, 4th club Fermoy 2013. This cock has now produced prize winners with 3 different hens in 3 seasons!
2nd Open went to Kieran G (Kieran Galvin) from Ireland, the bird clocked just 38 seconds behind the winner. The bird is a Cooreman x Kees Bosua. Kieran has been backing this bird throughout the series in the pools and was rewarded with £194 today due to being the 1st Gold Ring bird clocked as well! Congratulations Kieran.
3rd Open went to Boxer (Rob Beynon) She was just over 6 minutes behind the winner this week but this bird is having a remarkable series! She is leading the Ace Bird standing by some way after finishing 1st Open, 1st Open, 3rd Open and now again 3rd Open so far in the series! A Fantastic, game little hen who is flying her heart out for her owner! This bird is a Verheye / Frans Zwols. On the dam side is a Verheye bred by Franny Perruzzi of Norwich and on the sire side is a Frans Zwols from Johnny Strachan of Scotland. This hen is going to take some stopping come the final that’s for sure!
4th Open went to Rasbull Lofts (A.Shepherd & Son) 6 minutes, 30 seconds behind the winner, following on from her 5th Open in the 2nd Hotspot. This bird is bred from Richards top stock pair. The cock was bred by Alan Evans and was 4th Open Welsh Jubilee Race 500 miles. Also 2nd Section, 3rd Federation 3,652 birds. Had his first breeding season with Rasbull Lofts last year and bred 3rd Open, Final Pigeon Pixels One Loft Race and 80th Open, Final Somerset One Loft Race. The hen was bred by Martin Hayne and was 2nd Open Yearling Somerset One Loft Race 2013 winning £6,450. She is Double Granddaughter to Breakaway Boy 1st Open BBC Vire 2010. Grandmother was 1st Open Somerset One Loft Race 2010. First breeding season for this hen and first year pairing for these two pigeons with 3 youngsters from this pair in the series so 4th, 5th, 5th, 7th, 7th and now again 4th in the first five races is very encouraging indeed.
5th Open went to Fyne Lofts (Terry Markwick) who finished just under 7 minutes behind the winner. No details to hand for this bird.
6th Open went to Grahamcaple - It is a Vandenabeele, both parents bred by good friends Ian and Liz Purver from Skinningrove ,who fly in the mighty UNC,bred from the best M & D Evans Vandenabeele 's, The parents have always been paired together and have bred club, fed ,and national prize winners every year.
Returns were once again excellent with all 42 birds making it home and live to fight to be the Pigeon Pixels One Loft Champion next week in the final race! All members are going to be involved which is fantastic! The Ace Bird is now between two birds. WHU14D 01408 (Boxer) and GB14L 07702 (Peter Dempsey). Rob’s hen has a commanding lead and just needs to finish in the top 10 in the Final race to secure the title of Ace Pigeon. Should Boxer’s bird fail, then Peter’s will need to finish 1st or 2nd in the Final to take the spoils!
In the money list, Bunny (Paul Bunclark) still leads the way with £478, with (Boxer) Rob Beynon in 2nd place with £370. Kieran g’s win on the pools and Gold Ring today has seen him move into 3rd place with £194!
Details have now been released for next years event:- After the massive success of the last 2 events, Pigeon Pixels has once again teamed up with Irish Fancier Eamon Wright of Shortcut Lofts who competes in the mighty NIPA. We have modified and improved the competition each year and this coming year will be no different! We have not only incorporated a One Loft Series with increased prize money but for the coming season, we will hold a Best of the Best race which will feature the top 15 birds in a race of their own for £500!! Once again, you will get the chance to have your birds compete in the Irish Nationals after the One Loft series has finished! This will offer a real test for your birds against some really big household names in the sport and massive birdage of up to 28,000 birds! Most fanciers will welcome the chance for their birds to compete against other members birds on Pigeon Pixels in a One Loft series and also have the chance to compete against Eamon’s very successful race team and thousands of pigeons in the Irish Nationals after the series has finished!
There will be an entry fee of £35.00 per pigeon and this will cover the costs of Prize money, Trophies for the winners and entering the 15 birds in the National race. Maximum entry of 2 pigeons and all entrants must be members of Pigeon Pixels. There will be Trophies for the 5 ‘Hotspot’ race winners, The Final Race winner, ‘Ace’ bird and 'Best of the Best' Champion!
