Mid Cheshire

The latest weekend to report on was a good one for racing young birds and in the Mid Cheshire fed when 6 of the 7 members clubs featured on the result which must be good for the fed. The race concerned being from Cheltenham when 44 members sent 1,184 birds to be liberated at 11am in a West wind.

The top 4 fed positions went to the Acton Bridge winners Curtis-Wall-Lunt who are setting a high standard in the fed but as members have found out they are beatable.  In this race they recorded vels of 1470/1468/1463.4/1463.2ypm.

5 members sent 228 birds;

1st with chequer hen her sire is a direct son of their "Box 9 Pair2 x “1359” dam of fed winners being a daughter of “Olympaide 03”.

2nd is a daughter of "Miss 088" who is a top racing hen winnings include, 1st 6,513 birds 1st 4,556 birds 1st 1,018 birds and is inbred to the best of the Leo Heremans.

3rd is a chequer hen whose sire is a son of "Eurovision" while the dam is a daughter of the famous "Box 9 Pair”

4th is a blue cock son of “Blue Thunder2 sire of "Super 65" winner of 3x1st feds and crossed with “Sinnita" again a fed winning daughter of the "Box 9 Pair".

In the Middlewich FC the result looks unusual to say the least, when you look at the winning vel’s with W Wilson & Son topping the list on 1409ypm which is 7th fed and are 2nd club 0n 1287ypm followed by Alan Groom whose first bird records a vel of 1272ypm.

The club are not sending as many as they normally do which is down to far too many races from Worcester and Cheltenham.

The transport people need to seriously think about their race programme because this is just one club who are losing entries because of the race programme. I have also spoken to other fanciers who are on the same wavelength which is not good long term for the fed.

The Middlewich 5B were at Bath when 11 members entered 146 birds with W Wilson & Son making it a double 1st after topping the list in the other local club on 1345ypm.  Referring to vels there is also a good drop in vel’s for this club with 61yds separating the first 4. Anyway, we can look at all races and see drops in vels which is something we didn’t use to see as often as we do now. In this race Dave & Lynn Healey are 2nd clocking up 1328ypm ahead of Mark & Heather Smith on 1296ypm leaving 4th to Ken & Stan Bosson recording a vel of 1284ypm.

Congratulations to Ken Bosson who has just celebrated his 90th birthday. The club are racing with the South West Cheshire fed when 55 members sent 934 birds that were liberated at 11am in a West wind. The fed winner once again is Mick Stockton who is 1st & 2nd with the next 8 fed positions going to the Crewe West End club.
