LES J. PARKINSON'S

NEWS-REPORTS-ARTICLES

Well as most will know we don't take many breaks but with the pigeons going we shall be taking more of those breaks and we have already started. After having an extended weekend in North Wales we spent a week in a rented cottage in Ludlow and what a good break it was. Having said that I still spent some time on the PC and at the moment we have a couple of days to go and I am typing these notes. This is the first time that we have been to Ludlow and it was not like we expected it to be; funny how we get an idea of what a place is like but when we get there it is far from what we thought. Even so it is a really nice market town that Elizabeth said she would like to go to again. Mind you there are some good shops which she likes so next time I think I better forget to take my wallet - won't be the first time. We did spends days out and one such day was in Much Wenlock and what a nice place it is with a ladies’ outfitter that Elizabeth spent quite some time in while I sat on the seat outside listening to the local busker playing and singing a few well known songs. I even had to go into the shop in the end because I thought she had come out and missed me but that was not the case; all that time and didn't buy anything. We also had a look around the ruins of the local Priory and I said to Elizabeth "What a waste of good history". It is now in the hands of the Heritage Society but there is not a lot that they can do with it now. Ludlow castle is another place where all that history has come and gone with again only ruins to see. While in that area we could not go with a visit to the BHW offices where the girls were working hard to get everything right for the next issue having just sent out the latest edition. I had a talk to Editor Steve and the girls about what they did when the articles arrived with them and one thing I can say is that they earn the few bob that they get. While at the offices we did ask about places to go and we were telling them where we had been so a suggestion was made that we visit Powis Castle after leaving the BHW. Well I can tell the girls that it was a well worth visit and one that I can recommend if anyone is in the that area. The castle really is well preserved and a credit the National Trust who look after it. I must admit that wherever we went people were sociable, which is always good when you are out of your own area.

Club/Fed News

Not much going on now that the racing has finished but we have a few bits and pieces to catch up on. The South West Cheshire Fed race from Portland saw 23 members send 387 birds that were liberated at 1300hrs in an East wind. The Crewe West End members had a good race taking the top 7 positions with Colin Lindop taking the lions share with 1st 2nd 3rd 5th 6th being split by Mr & Mrs Keith Lovatt who finish 4th. 8th goes to Dave Dickenson & Son, 9th Mr & Mrs Albert Austin, 10th Jones Bros all being from the Winsford club. The other two member clubs being Greenbank where John Peever took the red card and the Middlewich 5B that saw Mr & Mrs Albert Austin top the list.

Photos

Elizabeth took a few photos at the BHW offices on our recent visit. One is of the girls working away and they do work hard with the other being of myself learning how the job is done. So as we were away not much to report this week.
