TRENDS IN PIGEON RACING.

With every system and strain name known to man in evidence, certain facts and truths remain at the pulse of the sport. Quality and condition will help you win races,as a result of clever management. A top man develops lines of related good birds that may,as a group ,take his name. Despite commercial trends for profit, racing pigeons are a heterozygous mixed bunch, descending from many sources and lofts. Wise to develop a personal, effective system and progeny test all your birds on it. With focus, you may be happy with progress over say 25 years. It is imperative that you look beneath and beyond the good looks of a bird. I see a trend now towards modified natural systems, especially for endurance races.

THE DEAD ZONE.

Sometimes in the human psyche is a void,a numb area ,cold and empty which i will call The Dead Zone. I suspect it is a product of an emotional centre in the brain. I liken the feeling to a spiritual vacuum, and have experienced the state in my being. In my long life lived in wilderness and in the concrete jungle i have met some lost souls . They may need medication and/or a sense of self belief or of spirituality that may be precipitated by external stimuli of people, belief systems or the natural world. My ideas are often the antithesis of materialism and the world of things. Wise to follow pursuits and creative interests that empower the inner man.

A MANS PIGEON LIFE IN PRINT.

This is a way of recording a fanciers esoteric, and knowledge peculiar to him. A clever writer will be able to document his results, methods, insights, feelings and the mental and practical processes of his love for pigeon racing. Books are the best medium for detail as a computer record can crash with loss of valuable information. I favour the Zsolt Talaber books which have educated many people. It is often the case that unique and special knowledge goes to the grave. Books can be quoted, reviewed and looked at in many years time and capture precious information of the unique fanciers who have led the sport into the future.

WHAT TO DO IN THE OFF SEASON.

Pigeons entail 365 days a year. There are lofts to visit, birds to see and people to meet. Wise to stimulate your enthusiasm in films, books and articles. It is time to recharge personal batteries and prepare for the breeding season. Racers should be maintained in good condition in the winter, and this may be achieved by open loft-hens, cocks out on alternate days-they will wise and harden up to the presence of any sparrowhawks. The females tend to hit in late winter and spring. It is logical to make loft alterations at this time. Each day, study individual birds-what are they like to mind and senses?? Wise to sex your birds at this time and cultivate your plans for the future. Your finest achievement may be in the creation of a strain,as breeding is the element to master-

THE NORMALISER.

A cold type virus has hit me for six. The mental impact has been large with a flattening of mood, reduced intellect ,creativity ,and certainly no euphoria. I have felt lessened in energy, power and life force, and have dubbed the virus The Normaliser. I hate being ordinary!! It strikes me that much and great work is to be done in the treatment of viruses in man, birds and animals, and on a global level. This is imperative, and the need for new antibiotics, and education in their long term use. On a global, human need research is of paramount importance.

STRATEGY

Wise to have deep, organised plans on how you will achieve breeding and racing success. This process takes insight, forethought and knowledge to get it right. Sensible to replicate your ideas each year,if you do well, and maintain focus. Try and be original and individual if you need to be outstanding. There are some creative, pioneers, and oddballs about with imagination and flair. They may revel in the progress that they make, and race on the far edge of possibility. The top fanciers have brains which are task dedicated. Some shun the limelight, yet congratulations to my protege Ghenty, who is now publicity man for The BICC, which he will serve well as he launches a great career in the pigeon racing media.
