Valentines Day

A jackdaw in flight with nesting material in its beak is a signal that early spring is here. Crocuses, Irises and Snowdrops are colourful in my garden, and gnats are dancing. Our birds are in hard condition with flights in all weathers throughout the winter. On the 1st of March we will let the stock run together, yet the race team will be left to pair later. We want form in July not April of the year when the swallows come. All the treatments carried out, it is a case of routine monitoring for pests and diseases. Our stock consists of inbreds around Barcelona pigeons, and some marathon outbred experiments. This is the day when the old pigeon men would pair their small team in the back garden to start a long season until September. Racing is on the horizon, if the bird flu abates, and men of ambition and dreams will be psyching up. Long may it all continue for people who love their pigeons.
