A BARCELONA DREAM THAT CAME TRUE
In 94 Diamond Queen dropped from Pau NFC at 735 miles and lit up my mind and fired the enthusiasm .She was a lovely hen, superbly bred and did not leave behind any good ones. Where to next, I asked myself. Now the only point that loomed large was the colossus which is Barcelona International at 879 miles. With determination and trepidation I set out to have a concerted go at the last chance saloon, the dizzy heights of the Pyrenees. By July of 95 with six birds left from my racing and in Amtrak boxes I sent them all down to John Lyden to be marked for the Daddy of all races. Liberated a week later and surviving transit to Sandwich in cardboard boxes, I verified 3 of the surviving 6 birds. We have 2 breeding g. children of 2 of them now, thus their epic endurance flight ensured the survival of their genes. It takes a dream and a little lunacy to do these things and the capability of good birds. Fanciers will continue to stretch the boundaries of possibility as long as ambition and imagination work within the psyche of man.
