Why the Stichelbauts?

Louella did a lovely visual image promotion of the strain, and from a hunch within I proclaimed them to be the birds for me. Of a nice small balanced type they oozed streamlined elegance, feather quality and racing ability on phenotype. Reading the publicity literature the DVH birds were great stock in the hands of Belgian masters like Denys, Van Hee and many other iconic fanciers in the world. I had to have some and struck a rich vein of success with my selections. I found that mine inbred from the off - I had learned the rudiments from my Father Jim in 57 with bantams. I persevered with them and believed in my abilities with the birds, gradually getting more and more competitive and expanding the stock and racing from 71 to 879 miles with my evolving, hard bitten strain of warriors.

I loved the dark chequers so much that I had a vision that my future would be formed around these birds in the form of a prophetic, life - enhancing presentiment, which became my Dark Destiny No 1 stock and many more. I saw these in a pictorial montage in my head. Loyal to my own personal dream, I was relentless in the impossible pursuit of perfection with these birds, since we made them perform like magic. My intuitive vision is so powerful with the birds that 40 years on I have sourced close relatives of the originals.

You may say I am a dedicated follower of my own fashion, in an aloof and introverted way. Now many others are reaping the benefits of the initiatives I took 40 years ago - I love to be individual in a rather intellectual, conceptual and abstract way - the strain is an outward expression of my personality
