BRIAN PEARCE CHATS TO JIM EMERTON

Brian Pearce

1 Brian, tell us all about you.

Well I started racing in 2020 with a YB team of SVR birds.

2 Why do you cultivate pigeons?

I enjoy the thought of breeding a long distance birds of my own, then sending it to Barcelona. Hopefully, next we will get one to Pau then in 2023 get one from Barcelona.

3 Are you a lover of nature?

I have always had animals, from pigeons, rabbits, ferrets and my real love was dogs, until I found the love for the racing pigeon.

4 What types of birds have you?

Like I said I had a team of 12 SVR birds and still have 7 today, but I have been lucky to be gifted a team of Kirkpatrick reds and grizzles. Also some Jos Thone birds and two nice cocks I have obtained from a friend in the UNC.

5 Do you read my books and watch my films?

Yes I have a couple of your books and I have watched your films on YouTube, numerous times. They are very informative and have helped me to reach this stage.

6 What is your target with the birds in your plan?

Next year I want to send to the nationals/international races with the BICC, I just want to get one in race time from each race. We scored this year in the BICC in the sections. We had 4 in the top 10 of 3 races. Not bad as it was our first year racing in the BICC.

7 Who are your hero’s in the sport?

Well I think yourself who helps everyone on social media and with your books. Also, everyone from the various YouTube videos and everyone with a dream in pigeons. But most importantly there is Steven Barrows from Middlesbrough and Phil Master from Suffolk. They have helped me a lot.

8 Where do you race and which clubs?

I race in a small club called Hadleigh and district club in the Norfolk and Suffolk south road federation. But I use them to get the birds fit for the BICC.

9 Will you race from France or Spain?

Next year I will race from anywhere for the distance, but hopefully France.

10 What timing system have you?

I have a Bricon ETS system which is great.

11 Explain why you love pigeons?

I love the husbandry side of the sport. What I mean is looking after the soldiers and planning their season and trying to get them in the best of health to hopefully score in a national. Hopefully one day win a national.

12 Are you a people person-have they helped you so far?

I’m quite a quiet person, but I have had lots of help so far with the birds and gifted birds.

13 Any ideas on pigeon politics or meetings.?

Having only been in the sport a short time, I think there are fanciers that think it’s their right to complain and moan. But I have noticed the best fanciers just get on and race their birds. But I think all the clubs management do an awesome job and never get the recognition they deserve

14 How can we all help the sport?

Been more positive and promote the sport positively through social media and beyond.

15 Have you a favourite bird?

Not yet as I haven’t won a section or a national. I’ve won club races so far, but it’s the big races I will cherish the winning Soldier. It will happen soon.

16 What is your job in life?

I am at the end of a career in the British Army, this is why I have started in pigeons now.

17 Any more ideas for us please?

All I would say is always be friendly, promote the Racing Pigeon sport positively and always try and help others.

18 How do you wish to be recalled in the sport?

I want to be remembered like yourself. The best at distance racing and for having the best family of Soldiers in Suffolk for the national/international races in the UK. Also, hopefully have the most winners in the UK from Barcelona.
