Greater Distance Single Bird NFC

BARCELONA 2008

The Greater Distance Club's 2nd nomination race was from Barcelona with the BICC where 14 members selected their single entries and this didn't prove to be a very easy task with only 2 birds in the result, these being to two fanciers who certainly know what birds to select for the club's races. John & Spencer have won on 5 previous occasions and Paul twice before and this year's 1st race where he had the only bird from Palamos

1st went to J Nicholson & Sons of Rochester with Jinni, their 6y late-bred chequer hen  She was originally going to go to Palamos with the BBC but was not right for the race and it was decided to get her fit for the Barcelona race. Jinni is out of the same mould as many of their good pigeons being a half sister to Little Dorritt who was a Spanish Diploma winner for them and Mrs Bumble who has been 7th & 20th Barcelona and 42nd Palamos for them. John said she is a small to medium well-muscled hen with a never say die attitude.  She was sent to Barcelona sitting 10 day old eggs and had very little roadwork before going to Barcelona, and she arrived back from Barcelona in very good condition. Jinni certainly has achieved some excellent results for John and Spencer: 1st BICC Marseille, 11th BICC Barcelona, 1st GDSBNFC Barcelona, 14th BBC Palamos, 2nd GDSBNFC Palamos, 56th NFC Pau and 127th NFC Dax.

2nd was Paul Stone with Jock, a 7y blue cheq cock which was bred for Paul by Andy Ritchie. Paul said he has been one of his most consistent birds winning 2nd GDSBNFC Barcelona, 7th GDSBNFC NFC Pau, 12th GDSBNFC Tarbes NFC, 125th, 286th & 296th NFC Grand National races, 37th Open BICC Bergerac, 284th Open BBC Messac and also 4x in the first 4 in the club. Paul has now decided to retire him to stock as he has been breeding him some lovely youngsters with his Jimmy Shepherd hens. Paul said he would like to take this opportunity to thank all the hard working officials of all the clubs that have made his old bird season so enjoyable

Well that's all for this race. The Tarbes report hopefully will be here next week once I have got a few more details.
