Hello all welcome to Dorset, this weeks edition of Racing Pigeons The Hardy way covers the Dorset Federations last old bird race of the 2020 season which was flown on Saturday July 18t.h where 51 federation members send a convoy 634 pigeons to Wadebridge. You can always guaranteed that when there is high hopes for an early liberation that Mother Nature will never play the game, and so it was that a waiting game ensued and at 11:45am the strings were cut and the pigeons cleared the transporter immediately heading homeward in a strong westerly wind with blue sky and broken cloud for company. Kicking of the “Hardy Country Top Ten “ for this week by taking the first three places in the Dorset Federation with a blue yearling hen on a velocity 1710.962, a check yearling cock bird on 1709.289, followed by a yearling blue cock doing 1707.619 is the East Howe South Road Flying Club loft of R&V McConnell. The loft of Cottrell, Richmond & Son from Rossmore Flying Club are in 4th place with a checker yearling cock doing 1698.577. N&D Spracklen from the  Crossways Flying Club secure 5th fed timing a yearling blue cock on the velocity of 1695.671. The East Howe South Road Flying Clubs partnership of T. Elkins, Son and Johnson clocked a two-year-old blue cock bird attaining the velocity of 1694.719 which sees them in 6th place. 7th Dorset federation  is awarded to the Rossmore Flying Club Partnership loft of Mr. &Mrs. M. King with a check cock on a velocity of 1683.453.Finally taking 8th,9th,and 10th from Upton Working Men’s Flying Club partnership of Mr.& Mrs. B Crutcher with a blue hen doing 1680.425 ,a check hen doing 1680.220 and check cock doing 1678.785 all of which were two year old’s. That’s the last Hardy Country top ten for the 2020 old bird season. Well done to all the prize winners!

On now to the club results Starting with The East Howe South Road Flying Club where 8 members sent 103 birds, taking the first three R&V McConnell in 4th place T. Elkins, Son and Johnson.

Before we talk about the last old bird race of the season for St Leonard’s and St Ives RPC, a huge congratulations must go to St Leonard’s and St Ives member Stuart Laws on topping the section in the NFC race from Messac on 18th of July. Well done Stuart! I will now hand over to club secretary Mrs. Jenny Mills with the race report from Wadebridge where 7 members sent 86 birds: Hi Chris, last OB Fed race, came all too soon. My first bird, a blue hen was a gift pigeon from Steve Travers last year. Following close behind was the Staff Van Reet hen that has been right up there for last few weeks taking third place, she was the first one in of five that dropped together, and in this group was the nest mate of the first bird. Jimmy Fisher took second position with a widowhood cock and he too had birds drop in threes and fours. As a club we have had good racing for old birds even with the social distancing, now on to the young birds.
