From The Chair “The Season with St Leonards and St Ives RPC “
By Chris Williams
Saturday May 15th saw 6 members of ST Leonards and St Ives RPC send 115 birds to Newbury for the second race of the old bird campaign in the Dorset Fed. The birds were liberated 13:45hrs into a light south wind. In my report from the first race along with justly congratulating the winner Jimmy Fisher, I also mentioned the brilliant team performance of Jim White from Christchurch and if that was anything to go by then who knows what he would achieve?
Well, as one greater than I once said “Ask and you will be given answers”. Well The Whirl Wind Jim White answered this question in style by timing a blue yearling cock on a Fed (1108 birds competing) and club wining velocity of 1313.54. Speaking about his winner Jim told me: “My pigeon is bred from a pair of stock birds acquired from my friend Rod Berry of New Milton. It is on the roundabout system my way as I’m still trying to get to grips with it!. I used to race 30 to 40 years ago with the likes of Tubby Tate, Major Buckingham and against the likes of Betty Blake of Poole, all of them a long time ago, many of the locals of my age will remember, but now I’m a new boy and at times find it very frustrating, but I love to see them flying around, I don’t think you ever lose the bug”.
I am happy to report that Jim had a 100% returns. Congratulations Jim on topping the Dorset Federation. At a time when there is negativity both in the world and certain areas of the sport it is wonderful to see a fancier return to the pigeon sport, all the best the rest of the season!

Jenny Mills AKA “Dorset’s leading lady hit the goal post again this week taking 2nd club 10th federation with a Dark yearling hen doing 1254.77. Jenny sent me the following info on her bird:
She is an Aarden x Ebony Aarden, the sire has many club and Fed cards and the dam was 12th Open C.S.C.F.C from Messac on her first channel race. The birds must have had a good start at the race point to get them going as here it was throwing it down when they arrived, had three drop together a couple of minutes later and then they came steadily 21/22. Last week’s Winner Jimmy Fisher takes 3rd 4th club ,14 ,15th federation this time around thanks to a chequered 2year old hen on the velocity 1248.60 closely followed by a yearling chequered hen doing 124833 unfortunately that is all the info I have on these two birds. Congratulations to all the prize winners.
