Derby Notes.
Saturday July 26th saw the start of the young bird programme for the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation who were at Cheltenham ( 2 ) as the first Cheltenham was cancelled on the 19 July due to the bad weather once again. The pigeons were liberated at 14-20 in a west north west wind.
In Holbrook Miners Welfare 7 members sent 296 birds with Mr & Mrs John Dowd making it a clean sweep taking the first four positions with velocities of 1379,1377,1376 & 1369.

12 members sent 212 birds in Osmaston Park Homing Society with Mick Stone continuing where he left of taking the red card with a blue cock doing 1361,followed by John & Steve Hicks with a b/w/f hen doing 1352.In third & fourth was the ever present Dave Waddington with a dark hen doing 1346 and a cheq hen doing 1344.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 5 members sent 94 birds and making a comeback into the sport after a short lay off and taking the red card was Kevin Southall with a b/w/f cock doing 1324 also winning a bottle of champagne and a £50 special. In second was the consistent loft of A.Peach & Son with a blue cock doing 1258.Steve Billings took third with a cheq hen doing 1182 with Pete & Shirley Harrison in fourth with a b/pied hen doing 1154.

Saturday August 2nd and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Hullavington with the two Derby clubs having an excellent turn out sending 712 birds between them. The pigeons were liberated at 10-40 in a light north west wind.
In Osmaston Park Homing Society 17 members sent 386 birds with the red card going to S & H W Hall with a blue flighty hen doing 1394,this was followed by Shenton Brothers ( Ron & Norman ) with a cheq cock doing 1393 to take second. In third with a blue hen doing 1392 were Mr & Mrs P Todd ( Paul & Lynda ) followed by Alan & Liz Houldsworth with a blue hen doing 1385 to take fourth.

In Holbrook Miners Welfare it was a podium finish for Kevin Matthews with velocities of 1381.1380.5 &1380.2.In fourth was John Dowd doing 1379.

6 members sent 95 birds in Etwall & District Flying Club with A.Peach & Son putting up another good performance getting a podium finish. His winner was a blue hen doing 1306 followed by a cheq hen doing 1287 then a black cock doing 1251 to take third. In fourth with a blue hen doing 1236 was Steve Billings.

Saturday August 9th and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were once again at Hullavington with the pigeons being liberated at 12-20 in a west wind.
In Holbrook Miners Welfare 6 members sent 203 birds and what a day it turned out to be for their winner and new member Peter Schofield who's pigeon a blue cheq cock which was bred of a pair of pigeons which he purchased form Tim Atkin was 32 yards clear of the field doing 1687.Pete, returning to the sport after a long absence and making his presence felt already in his first season. Pete’s pigeon topped the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation making it a wonderful come back into the sport ( Well done Pete ).Taking the next three positions were B & S Stone with their first two pigeons doing 1655, followed by their third pigeon doing 1647.

In Osmaston Park Homing Society 14 members sent 160 birds and taking the red card getting and his second win with his youngsters was Mick Stone with a blue hen doing 1655.Taking second & fourth was S & H W Hall with a blue hen doing 1649 and a blue w/f hen doing 1638. In third was Alan & Liz Houldsworth with a blue hen doing 1644.
In Etwall & District Flying Clue 6 members sent 82 birds with Kevin Southall getting the red card with a b/pied hen doing 1631 this was followed by a cheq hen doing 1576 to take fourth. In second were A.Peach & Son with a cheq cock doing 1608 with Peter & Shirley Harrison in third with a cheq cock doing1591.
Saturday August 16th and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Frome with the pigeons being liberated at 11-55 in an east north east wind.
Holbrook had 7 members sending 173 birds and taking the first two positions was the loft of D & A Swift & Son with velocities of 1275 & 1271.3.In third doing 1271.0 with the same pigeon that won last week and topped the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation was last week's winner Pete Schofield. Fourth went to T.Mather & S Haywood doing 1270.

In Osmaston Park Homing Society 15 members sent 165 birds and taking his second red card in the young bird programme was S & H W Hall ( Stan ) with a b/w/f hen doing 1268 this was followed by last week's winner Mick Stone with a blue cock doing 1248.In third with a blue cock doing 1199 was Alan & Liz Houldsworth followed by Dave Waddington with a dark cock doing 1196 to take fourth.
In Etwall & District Flying Club 7 members sent 119 birds with P & S Harrison getting the winner with a cheq cock doing 1257 which was 85 ypm clear of the field. Taking the next three was Kevin Southall with two cheq hens doing 1172.5 & 1172.2 with his next pigeon a blue hen doing 1171 to take fourth.

Saturday 23rd August and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation had a change of race point from Yeovil due to a bird flu outbreak to Blandford when the pigeons were liberated at 11-10 in an east south east wind. This proved to be a testing race for the birds with many empty perches at night.
In Holbrook Miners Welfare Homing Society 5 members sent 141 birds with D & A Swift & Son getting back to back wins doing 1411 followed by T.Mather & S Haywood in second doing 1395.Taking the next two positions was the ever present Kev Matthews doing 1394 & 1363.
Osmaston Park Homing Society had 12 members sending 129 birds with Dave Waddington well clear of the field with a blue cock doing1316 to take the red card with his next pigeon a cheq hen doing 1230 to take fourth. In second with a ch/wf cock doing 1249 was Mick Stone with S & H W Hall ( Stan ) doing 1242 with a bl/pied to take third.
In Etwall & District Flying Club 6 members sent 66 birds with A.Peach & Son ( Alan ) taking three of the first four positions and getting the red card was a red hen doing 1178 followed by a white hen doing 1107 to take second, then a blue hen doing 1070 to take fourth. In third with a b/w/f hen doing 1091 was Kevin Southall.
Sunday August 31st and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Frome with the race being put back 24 hours due to bad weather reports. The pigeons were liberated at 09-10 in a South South West wind with high velocities expected.
In Holbrook Miners Welfare 6 members sent 165 birds with B & S Stone ( Brian & Sue ) having an excellent day making it a clean sweep with velocities of 2037, 2035 , 2033, & 2031.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 6 members sent 64 birds with Kevin Southall making it the second clean sweep of the day. His winner was a blue hen doing 1983.3 followed by two cheq hens doing 1983.0 & 1982 followed by a doing 1955 with a blue cock to take fourth.
9 members sent 101 birds in Osmaston Park Homing Society with John & Steve Hicks getting a podium finish taking the first three positions. Their winner was a cheq w/f cock doing 1972 followed by a blue cock doing 1964 then a cheq hen doing 1928 to take third. In fourth with a blue cock doing 1926 were Alan & Liz Houldsworth.
