DROMARA HPS PRESENTATION - FEBRUARY 2014

The members of Dromara H.P.S. held their annual dinner and prize distribution in the Pheasant restaurant in Anahilt on the evening of Friday 21st of February. The night was attended by a great crowd of members, family and friends. Gordon Kirkpatrick started proceedings by saying grace which was followed by a beautiful meal which everyone enjoyed.  A special treat was to follow as a surprise birthday cake, complete with candles, was supplied by Fiona Stevenson and her sister Marina for husband Bobby who was the blushing birthday boy; it was also his brother in law Stephen's birthday the day before, so it was a double celebration.

It was then onto the presentation of the prize cards which Mrs Molly McCleary very kindly carried out. Top prize winner with an outstanding 10 firsts were Cromie & Magee & Son. The partnership had, as usual, a fantastic season. Runner up with 6 firsts was Russell Bros, a loft that is never far away inland or channel. The top two were followed by N.Black & Son, Mr & Mrs Stevenson, McKinstry Bros, H. Silcock and Tom Marshall & Son with most of the members winning prizes.

Mrs Ena Kirkpatrick then took over to present the cups and trophies. Some of the highlights of the season were Mr & Mrs Stevenson winning 1st Section 2nd Open Fermoy YB 5 Bird and a week later 1st Section 1st Open Rosscarbery YB, a race in which Cromie & Magee & Son were also 3rd Open, but the biggest cheer of the night was reserved for Harry Silcock for his 1st club and 45th Open in the King’s Cup.

The presentations concluded with Margaret Cromie presenting Fiona Stevenson with a bouquet of flowers in appreciation of all her tea making duties throughout the year. A raffle with lots of lovely prizes and young birds from the top six prize-winners followed with the birthday boy Bobby winning two of the young ones. The only surprise of the night was that the usually lucky Stanley McKinstry didn't win a single raffle prize.
