WELSH SOUTH ROAD NATIONAL
by Dixey
FALAISE - JUNE 2012
The second of the Welsh South Road Nationals took place from Falaise on Saturday 9th June, and a good entry was put up by the members for this aproxx 235 miles race. Liberation took effect by convoyer Phil Fishlock ably assisted by their race controller Mike Parker into a moderate head winds at 07.00. A hard slog was anticipated but as a surprise to nearly everyone, they made excellent progress with very good returns being reported in all the south road clubs. In fact vels into the 1300 ypm proved what a good clear day with excellent channel condition can prove us all wrong.
The leaders were, as expected, into the East section, and the winner was to Spencer Jones of Abersyachan nr Pontypool. Winning Nationals and classic races is nothing new to Spencer having taken 1st, 2nd and 3rd open in the BICC races in recent years, and as I was going to put up a photo of him taken in years past but I thought twice about it due to advancing years, not only to Spencer but to myself as well. Spencer timed his good two year old cock at 12.08 to be the probable winner once again. This cock is bred down from off his excellent racer “That’s My Boy”, who Spencer later sold to Angel Bros. Also, the sire of this winner has already topped the Welsh S.R.F. three times so there are more proven winning lines here. This very good National winner handles like a dream with crisp pearl eye and lovely balance. Raced on widowhood, this light cheq cock's breeding on the dam's side is Van Loon via Brian Bolton whose family come down from the Planet Bros.

Spencer Jones of Abersychan, probable winner of the Welsh SRNFC from Falaise.

The light cheq cock, winner of the Falaise National for Spencer Jones.
In probable 2nd open is Ray Lambert of Abergaveny. Ray’s arrival comes down from his old Grizzlies family and in fact its Grand dam topped the Federation out of Falaise some time back for Ray. This two years old blue hen was kept in the young bird section because Ray only has two hens racing and it was paired up to one of the youngsters, a cock, and she was sent sitting a small young bird for this race.

Ray Lambert.
Taking probable 3rd open is Frampton & Price, again no strangers to the open and classic positions for these are very astute fanciers. Mark Sparey is also in there once again as is Morgan & Thorne and the last National winners from Carentan, G & M Clayton.
As mentioned previously, excellent returns once again and many reporting 100% returns so well done to all concerned and well done to all who clocked early arrivals. All is looking good for the next race from Le Mans on 23rd June.
I have given out the first probable 22 open positions and of course these are only probable at the time of compiling this report.
