RHONDDA VALLEY FED

Penygraig Presentation

It was the turn of Penygraig H.S to hand out the trophies and prizes for the 2008 season, sadly we do not have enough support to have the traditional meal and artist, and this year it was a pretty poor affair of handing out the silver ware tucked away in the skittle alley, something that should be changed for 2009 when you consider the performances put up during the season by the members, for the third time in four seasons, Penygraig were the top club in the Rhonddda Valley federation.

Topping the list in 2008 and with the honour of premier prize winners in the Rhondda federation are Brian and Mike Gill, flying as Gill Bros and Son. They really had a season to remember, top flyers in the fed Old birds, they had 2 really good results from the longest race points of Bonn and Giessen and topped this off with 1st fed from Hullavington with the young birds. In the club they clean up with 9 x 1st, 8 x 2nd and 14 x 3rd club, plus winnings of over £500, they showed the rest of us the way home.

Brian and Mike Gill – top prize winners at Penygraig

Runners-up are Arnold and Keith Davies, these boys started off the season with 1st fed from Swindon Old Birds and finished off being highest points winners  with young birds in the fed, they clear over £300 and 3 x 1st, 6 x 2nd and 4 x 3rd in the club

Next in are Dunn son Seal, highlight for these were 2nd National Maidstone Old Birds and with their performances with the Tonypandy club, they end up runners-up in the Rhondda Valley Federation. In the Penygraig club they take home 5x 1st club 3 x 2nd club and 3 x 3rd club.

Alec Anstee and John Williams with the new ETS System

Williams, Jones and Davies clear £150 and win 2 x 1st, 1 x 2nd and 2 x 3rd, best of these were wins from Epsom and Lillers with the old birds, and good fed positions to go with them, might get some biscuits to go with the tea,  when you call at the loft now Glyn!!!!

Martin Jarman left and Kenny Moon right

Brett Jones was a new member for Old birds and he really made his presence felt, winning 4 x 1st, and 4 x 2nd with old birds only, he really flew a good pigeon, highlight being 4th and 5th national Ramsgate and an high position from Huy, Brett is staring back with young birds in 2009.

M/M Kenny Abbot

Martin Jarman was next, only flying a small team due to Pigeon Fanciers Lung problems, Martin started off with 2nd fed from Swindon and Rounded off a really consistent old bird season with 1st fed from Newbury. Martin also proved almost impossible to beat in the local shows this winter showing how well his birds are.

The Anstee Bros put up some good performances from across the water and only the Gill Bros prevented them from winning a couple of these races, they still cleared a number of cards from overseas. Another good channel flyer, Kenny Abbot did better with his small team of young birds and some new introductions helped win over £100 pool money, we’ll have to look out for these as yearlings in 2009.

Kevin Andrews in his 2nd season with the club didn’t clear the pools in 2008 has he had done in 2007, I think the other members had realised how good he was picking his fancied pigeons and studied a little harder this year to deny him as much has he had cleared up last year, Kevin had a number of minor positions as did Kenny Moon, who was more than happy to clock one on the Result from Pau with the Welsh South Road National and securing one of the magnificent trophies in the Rhondda social Circle. Robert Street completes the List, Robert still Building is team back up, he again had a number of minor positions, showing how consistent his small team was coming in 2008.

Trebanog H.S held their presentation evening on Saturday 20th December at their club Head Quarters, Viv Port, Tonpandy Secretary, did the honours, handing out the trophies to the 2008 winners.

Top prize winner in 2008 is Glyn Sibley, Glyn had a very good young bird season,5 x 1st club, to compliment his old birds 3 x 1st club, for a total of 8 x 1st, 6 x 2nd club and 5x 3rd club, plus cash winnings of £222 to help with the corn for the winter.

Runner – up was Bernard Lawrence, Bernard had 5x 1st with the old birds, 3 of which was own by the same pigeon, this cock also won a number of other cards to take a well deserved bird of the year and the club photograph. In total Bernard had another 5 x 2nd club and 6 x 3rd club plus cash amount of £218

Chris Jones, club secretary was next up, quiet year by Chris’s standards, following on from winning the young bird averages in the fed in 2007, he won 3 x 1st club, 7 x 2nd club and 6 x 3rd club and a nice cash total of £386.

Brian Samuel takes 2 x 1st club, plus other positions, best of which was winning from Lillers, £50, with Jones and Roberts taking 1st Newbury with the young birds and £36.

Preston Williams another having a quiet season by his standards managed 2 x 2nd and a 3rd club, with £25 cash winnings, with new Starter Daniel and Grandad having a good race from Hullavington, 2nd, 3rd and 4th club plus other minor positions for a total of £27, not bad for their first full season back.
