On The 17/7/23 the SWELC kicked off its 2023 young bird programme with the first race being at Stratford upon Avon race course in Warwickshire at 09.30am into a west south west wind the birds were liberated the top open twenty positions in the open were as follows claiming 1st & 2nd open SWELC plus 1st & 2nd Sodbury Vale NRFC was the partnership of Vaughan & Cook flying 58 miles their winner a dark white flight cock being the Dam a Mike Ganus hen crossed a Peter Fox grizzle cock of the cooper lines their second also a dark cock being bred from a hen from the partnerships golden pair which have produced one loft race scoring result birds when paired to a Van Loon Cock both were flown on the darkness system flying back to their perches their velocities were 1117 & 1109.

3rd, 8th & 9th open SWELC plus 1st, 2nd & 3rd Nailsworth club was Nick Orchard & Sev flying 34 miles their first over the pad a blue chequer hen being purchased at the new north road amalgamations Futurity sale being bred by Chris Orchard which has the distance lines of local fancier David Fox and the NFC legend of distance Stan Dangerfield birds in its creation the 2nd a mealy hen being a Van Vugt Doncker from Matthew Munslow their 3rd a Bonny grizzle cock being a Rudy Van Reeth known to the partnership as shot gun as his last two ring numbers are 410. Again these are bred out of Matthew Munslow stock obtained and gifted from Matthew from his famous Trigger bird and were flown on the Darkness system Nick who works long hours would like to thank partner Sev who helps out with the care of the birds nothing is too much trouble for her to do and he appreciates everything she dose their velocities were of 1089, 1073 & 1072.

5th, 6th, 7th & 10th open SWELC plus 1,2,3,4 Thornbury club was Dave Smith flying 53 miles his first a blue chequer hen being a New North Road Amalgamation Futurity baby purchased at the young bird auction and being bred by Gavin Duggan his second a Dark cock of Bushart crossed Soojen the third a blue chequer cock again being a New North Road Amalgamation purchased baby bred by Gavin Duggan and his fourth arrival a blue chequer cock being a Bushart crossed Soojen all flown on the darkness system together with velocities of 1076 2 x 1075 and 1051.
11th open SWELC and 4th Nailsworth club was Alan Gibb flying 29 miles doing 1048.
12th & 13th open SWELC was the Walker Brothers flying 42 miles their first a blue hen bred by Chadderton & Ford of Wirksworth Derbyshire and was purchased at the new north road amalgamations young bird Futurity sale their second a blue hen being a Lambrechts bred from their £10,000 new north road amalgamation Futurity 2022 Alnwick winner when paired to a Franz Zwols cock bred from the famous No seventeen bird they were both flown on the darkness system with velocities of 1038 & 1037.739.
14th open SWELC and 1st Bridgewater club was Edwin Richards flying 91 miles with a blue cock being a Les Green Koopman crossed Veenstra bred from a cock purchased from the Blackpool show when paired to a Miro Chwedoruk Jan Hooymans and he was raced on the traditional young bird natural system his velocity was 1037.266.

19th open SWELC and 2nd South Bristol club was Andrez Stanowski flying 64 miles with a red cock being a Dirk Van Den Bulk with both parents originating from Miro Chwedoruk he was flown on the traditional young bird natural system with a velocity of 1031.
20th open SWELC and 1st West Bristol club was R Herbert flying 64 miles with a blue hen doing 1027.
