Sheffield & District 5 Bird Championship
Blandford 30/4/2011
Yet another great race for the club with all nine prizes being taken by nine separate lofts, now if that’s not top competition I don’t know what is. Taking top spot this week is the man I call “The quiet one” Mr Tony Burton of Darnall. This red card adds to Tony’s 1x6th and 2x8th gained already in the first three races, so well done Tony. 31 members sent 155 birds liberated at 10:00hrs in a ENE wind, 1st A Burton&son 1225, 2nd B&C Brelsford&son 1224, 3rd Thomson&son 1220, 4th Boden&Hollingworth 1213, 5th Garner&Morton 1208, 6th Carder&Thomson 1200.7, 7th M&A Sherwood 1200.2, 8th D&C Gibson 1199, 9th Mr&Mrs P Plant 1190. This week saw the first race in the channel section just the four prizes are paid out in this section as the membership is slightly lower as you’d expect with all the specialist clubs the go over the water. As well as the first four prizes there was also a special of £20 for 5th place kindly donated by Dave Robinson however, this is carrying over to the next channel race as Dave won his own special in the this one. 12 members sent 60 birds liberated in a light South wind. 1st Mr&Mrs P Plant 1708, 2nd Carde&Thomson 1705, 3rd Mr&Mrs A Jackson 1700, 4th Mr W Lax&sons, 5th Mr D Robinson 1693. Well what can I say, it gives me great pleasure to write about the winner of this race. Nine year old Adam Plant is very quickly making a name for himself within the club. Up to now this season he has won 1x8th 1x3rd and now has his first win under his belt and I’m sure it is one of many. Not only was it Adam's first win in the Championship Club but it was his first win ever. Adam described his day on the well known internet site Pigeon Chat, as “the best day of my life.” This young man is as keen as mustard and I mean keen, the whole Plant family are 100% pigeons which is great to see in this day and age when numbers are dropping every year. Not only did he win but he won by a massive 114ypm with his Blue cock named “Big Boy” well done Adam everyone at the club is over the moon for you. Speaking of the Plant family Adams Granddad took 7th spot in this race and his mum and dad who won the week before also had a great day in the Woodhouse Open race over the Bank holiday, sending just two birds and taking 1st 2nd having them arrive together picking up £570, fantastic flying. On to the result and 29 members sent 140 birds liberated in a strong WSW wind. 1st A Plant 1687, 2nd P&T Hague 1573, Leitch&Smith 1531, 4th and 8th Mr E Eblett 1518 1473, 5th Mr&Mrs T Dury&son 1492, 6th B&C Brelsford&son 1486, 7th Mr D Plant 1478, 9th A Burton&son 1465. Congratulation to all the prize winners.

Paul & Adam Plant.

Young Adam's Big Boy.

P&T Hague's Cheq Cock - 2nd Blandford.
In just the five races mentioned above the members have flown for close to £1,425 just in pool money alone, that’s without the fantastic prize money that go’s with it each week. Congratulations to all the members who make this great club what it is. Thanks for reading,
