ROSE OF THE SHIRES

Scotch Corner  13/06/09

The Northants Fed had their birds crated up and away to Scotch Corner on the weekend of the 13 June.  The birds were in the air at 06.30 into a clear blue sky with sunshine on the baskets and a warm but steady race was anticipated due to the head wind which thankfully was only light to moderate.  The birds once again fooled us all and arrived a little ahead of  the expected ETA.

Raunds Club

In the Raunds club 6 members sent around 70 birds to this 155 miles or so race and they were thought to be capable of about 40 miles an hour or just under in the conditions but Mick Lawless’s two year old winner recorded 1359ypm or over 45 miles per hour.  He clocked another two year old 8 minutes later to claim the fourth place and this bird won the pools.  How about this for another coincidence.  Mick was 1st and 4th last week from Elgin and the same two birds were once again 1st and 4th this week and in the same order as well!  Both are Willy Thas from MNFC winner Frank Bristow’s loft and were sitting after being paired up for Lerwick but I don’t suppose they will be going to the Shetlands.  In between Micks 1st and 4th came the ever present Adrian Webb with two roundabout yearling Janssen’s from his “Devon Stud” (Tumley Lofts) that decided on the day that they were not interested in trapping, a trait the remaining three imports all show.

Corby Town

This week Corby Town sent 92 birds between 9 members, to Scotch Corner.Making it his second hat trick of the year, and repeating himself from the first old bird race. R.Fairbairn hit 1st/2nd and 3rd club this week. Ronnie is also a van Reet man, clocking in 3 to take the first 3 club places. His 1st club was a mealy doing 1376, 2nd club a blue pied doing 1375. His 3rd club was a blue doing 1374. Mr & Mrs Power took 4th club, with a Busscharet cock, doing 1325. Murphy Bros took 5th club with a soonjen cock doing 1305. The 6th club was Mr & Mrs Stanton with a van Reet cock, doing 1300. Young Aimee Barker Corby Town reporter said Well done lads and lasses, it was an exciting race for the Corby boys.

On behalf of all Corby Town, they would like to congratulate former member's Ian & Margaret Finnie on their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Which they celebrated at the week-end, as relatives organised a suprise party. The club member's who attended would like to thank the family for a most enjoyable celebration. A great night was had by all.

Tail End

Firstly may I apologise to the Leicester Fed driver for the misunderstanding regarding the Perth liberation. The old bird season seems to be flying by - Oops! sorry for the pun!  It really is though, with only 4 races or so to go, which is'nt alot. Then the little love's can chill out until next season. You all can take it steady too, until the Y/B's start. That's when you'll all be wearing the lawn/path out with pacing, and chewing your nail's to your elbow's on their first race ha!  Would you also keep your eye out for young Aimee Barker (Corby Town reporter) in" Squeakers Corner", great stuff Aimee. Well guy's and gal's until next week-be good. keep safe. and get the Barb out!

Bye for now - Sue & Nathan.
